Sleep paralysis. Scariest shit in the world. Happened to me a few nights ago. Fuckin run to yo mama scary. Finally figured out wtf it was. Shits been buggin me for days. Sheer. Fuckin. Terror. - Thats the only way I can summarize this. I went to bed, and a few minutes after I closed my eyes I fell asleep, then woke up right away. I was wide awake, but I couldn't move. I've had this happen before but this was different. Usually it only lasted about 5 seconds and then I could move. But this time I felt the heaviest weight on top of me and somethin like an evil presence in my room. All I could see was black the whole time and I could hear breathing. I felt like there was demon right next to my bed but I just couldn't move or see it. The anxiety and fear i had was immense. Then all the sudden I felt like I fell thousands of feet through the ground at the speed of light then back up into the sky like something was pulling me up just as fast as I fell. It was like my soul was being pulled away from my body and I was doing whatever I could to catch it again. Never have I been so scared or panicked. This was goin on for what seemed like forever but was only about ten minutes. I kept trying to move my arms but they were infinitely heavy. I tried to yell for help but nothing would come out. I thought something was ripping my soul from my body. Then boom I snapped out of it. I got up and made some coffee, then I stayed awake until I had to go to church, then went to sleep when i got home lol. This shit makes a nightmare seem like the best dream you've ever had. 1st time its ever happened to me thats why I was so freaked out. Now that I know what it is I'm not really freaked out anymore, but shit damn when it was happening I've never been so scared in my life. If it happens again at least ill know whats going on cuz you're fully conscious when its happening. Apparently, I was having a nightmare but became conscious in the middle of it and my body was still in sleep mode. It's called sleep paralysis or "old hag syndrome" do some research if its ever happened to you. This was unbelievably realistic but in the end was only a dream. What a fuckin trip lol.
Yup... I used to get it occasionally as a kid and frequently through my teens. Had no idea WTF it was and it was hard to explain to others who'd never experienced it before. I heard all the BS about incubus and succubus but I wanted a scientific explanation. I finally found some info on it when I was about 17 and slowly began conditioning myself to get over it. For some reason I find that I am much more likely to have an episode if I sleep flat on my back than on my side. A big component of my sleep paralysis episodes would be a looping out of body experience of sorts, where after the initial terror of being "pinned down" and sensing a malevolent entity in the room with me, I would think I had woken up and gone downstairs/got ready for school, etc, then realize something wasn't quite right about the picture (once I went downstairs and my house looked the same except all the furniture was gone and no one was home) and decide I must still be dreaming and it would start over from there. The loop usually played 5-6 times before I was able to wake up for real. It was very dissociative and I would almost be watching myself do it from a 3rd person perspective although it was very lucid and I could not tell at that point if I was awake or asleep. Very strange feeling and very terrifying indeed when you have no idea what's going on. That feeling of complete helplessness and lack of control continued to scare the shit out of me even after I learned what it was. So glad it doesn't happen to me much anymore.
EXACTLY! im glad someone can relate. it happened to me sleeping on my back also. i never sleep on my back. always on my stomach. idk why i did this particular night but i think thats what caused it. so weird. thanks for your post!
It happened to me for the first time a few months ago, I had been reading about lucid dreaming, out of body experiences etc. and sleep paralysis came up. Once it was happening, I knew what was going on, and it wasn't all that terrifying. I heard speaking, footsteps, and breathing, and I felt pressure on my legs and my chest, as if someone were sitting on them.
This happened to me, and I'd never heard of it before, so it was the worst experience of my life! And what's weird is the story behind it! I had had a dream in which I was in the middle of a wasteland in pitch darkness that encircled me like a dome. The space was lit only by a blazing bonfire. There were all these things moving in the darkness. then one stepped out. It was this man with a black wide-brimmed hat and a black cloak. He had peeling orange skin and sharp teeth protruding from his mouth. He looked at me, and it was like he was looking into my soul. And then he spoke, and i could hear him like he was right inside my head. He said that they were coming for me, the demons, and he showed me an image inside my head of them tearing me open and devouring me. I woke up in a panic and wrote it in my dream journal. Time went on. Then, one night, i dreamt I was in a land of white, and i was happy. There was snow. I was spinning around and leaping and having fun. And then i turned to my right, and everything froze. There was a table, and atop the table, there he was, Just above me, gazing out so that his face was in profile. Slowly, his fang-filled smile spread up his cheek, cracking and tearing its way all the way up to his ear. He turned so slowly. and when he had finally locked his eyes on me, his mouth opened wide, and i heard in my head, "Not yet". I nearly died right there. I awoke and my heart was pounding through my ribs and it hurt. I struggled to inhale as if i hadn't been breathing. That night I did protection spells, because i knew they were coming. I was absolutely sure of it. The next morning, I went to write it down in my dream journal, and realized that the date was exactly one year apart from when the first nightmare had occurred. Time went by and not much happened. Then, as the date was approaching again, i awoke to a cardinal bashing its head in against my window. For three weeks straight, this cardinal flew right into my window over and over again. I would draw back the shades and it would just stare at me - looking me right in the eyes - through the glass. If i went outside to chase it away, it would just stare at me with its deep, black eyes. Then, it began haunting the front door as well. It was terrible. It came to the point that i had a dream in which a woman floated down from above and told me that the cardinal was death trying to get in, and that if it was allowed to get into the house, someone in the house would die. The night that the date came around, I slept with a flashlight in hand, my room door open, my tv on. I awoke, and saw the clock. It was 3:33 am. I rolled my eyes away from it to the door, saw it was open and remembered what night it was. Then it occurred to me that my tv was off and it was pitch black except for a faint light coming from down the hall. And that's when it happened. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something move in the shadows by my closet. I focused on it, held my breath. Then, something stepped out of my closet, and my heart stopped. I went to grab for the heavy, metal flashlight, but my hand meerly twitched. And I went from panic to utter F***ing terror. It knew that I'd realized that I was paralyzed, and I heard it chuckle. Time seemed to drag as it drew itself out of the pit of black across from my bed. It paced toward me at a snail's pace, enjoying every second. Finally, it came within a foot of my bed, and stopped where i'd made a circle of salt. It looked down, and I looked to the clock again. 4:45. My eyes grew wide as it turned to my face and smiled...then began to stretch its body and lean forward. I tried to lash out, but my arm drifted over the sheets as if a ball and chain were attached to it. I tried to kick, but my legs were like distant islands. And then I went to scream. And it was pleased. Barely an audible whisper. But I could feel the breath passing across my lips! ...Even after I'd finished trying to scream. I looked up to its horrid face to see that it was inhaling, and pulling my breath and energy out of my body. I could see it leaving my body! I shut my eyes tight, and praying to God, I pictured the scene from just above my body. There I hovered, horrified. Then, I grabbed the stream of faint white leaving my body, and I pulled with all my strength! The demon hissed. And then it broke in through my window, the Sun! A ray burst through around the shade, and split the space between me and the night creature. It shrunk back. I was now back in my body, and I stared into its dark gray eyes, which turned up with its soul-eating grin. As the sunlight spread, it floated backward into the closet space silently, never blinking, its intimidating presence unwavering. As its face sunk into the shadows of the closet, I was suddenly able to move again. My alarm went off, and I reached over and smacked the clock. Breathed all the way in, a big deep breath, AND THEN SCREAMED MY F***ING HEAD OFF. And broke into tears. Sleep paralysis my ASS!
