I'm pretty happy... after a year and 4 months I got my first "take a shower hippy!" yelled at me from a passing car and the dude drove around the block to shout it at me again! <3
My First Was At Only Two Months......."Nappy Head".... The Second Was This Week, One Day Before My Twelve Month Mark....... ...A Very Loud "DREADIES". On Both Occasions The Comments Came From A Carload Of Teenagers Driven By A Red P-Plater Driver.... No Surprises There Folks.... Cheers Glen.
countless little things over the years. the positive outweigh the negative by a load though. everything from almost getting a baseball bat planted in my face by a group of skinheads who said i'm betraying my country and my skincolor and have fruits as hair (???) to people asking me to wash/comb my hair to "fucking hippy" to all the semi-negative things like people running up to me and feeling them and pulling on them to neutral things like the truly countless horrified old people looks and the endless weed requests to more positive things like getting "ran over" by hordes of girls with a million questions and dread-frisky hands
Some people are just assholes, it's almost better to know that about them up front when due to them bothering you about hair.
My mom's boyfriend has called me that for a few years, before I even had dreads. It fits a lot better now though.
Thats What I Thought, And That It Was Only Aimed At Muslims, BUT, When You Have A Car Load Of Teenagers, Not Much Thought Goes Into What Gets Yelled Out The Windows..... Cheers Glen.
Get My First..???? Let Me Get This Straight, At 18 Years Of Age, You Still Haven't Had Your First..???? Your'e A Very Slow Developer Aren't You...... Cheers Glen.
"nappy head" is not a racial slur, the word nappy just tends to be used more by certain ethnicities, at least in my experience. i would take it as a compliment.
With Vig When I first started the dread process I often got told that my hair was looking nappier by the day Nappyheads not to be confused with Towelheads
Josh, Tis Clear, You Need To Get Your Hearing Checked Out..... What Was Really Said Was, Your Hair Is Looking "Crappier" By The Day"...... FIXED..... Cheers Glen.
someone drove by me while i was skating and said "washh you hair!" but at first i thought they said "Awesome hair!" and i threw up my arms and was soupedd, until i realized it was a car full of ghetto kids laughing. haha
i get the usual "how do you get them" "do you wash your hair" "what actually are they" kind of questions, out of naivety and the novelty rather than mean-ness. although the other day my friend's dreaded boyfriend said "ohh those are dreads? i thought they were like twists or something..." which hurt lol but he's had dreads his whole life really so isnt familiar with the earlier stages. well, i say "earlier". this is 8 months of hard work!! well, i say "hard work"..........
Yup, me too. I haven't gotten to many comments recently however, just a whole lotta stares...I choose to take these as "DAMN, look at that hottie with the dreads!" lol. That's usually my motto--if I don't know how your comment/stare was intended, I'll just choose to hear/see what I want to. Workin' pretty well so far.
My boss said to me yesterday; ''Hey Amy, how about you buy one of those things... you know... a brush'' and questioned whether I wash my hair with sugar and water. I'm in the early stages of my newest set, so it's quite nice that people are actually noticing that somethings going on with my hair!
Oh jeez, today someone yelled "slut" out the window at me. Really didn''t know how else to take that so I just laughed. Some people are just idiots.
