One the many reasons to have smoke alarms and surge protections on electrical appliances is to prevent FIRE!!!

earlier I was joking in a thread on another forum than they should have a fire alarm. Well not only after I posted that I smelled electrical fire somewhere, soon after that my smoke detection went off..

It seems that one my exhaust fans (squirrel cage fan) to be exact in one my gardens decided to freeze up and over heat..
It didnt catch fire, but was soon close to doing so.. Im not sure how big a fire it would of been considering that fan sits atop my water bin, with a closed lid. About 20gl of water, so if it had caught fire it *might* have melted the lid and just fell in there.. But Im sure there would of been some fire to spread _:eek:

So you may have all the lighting nice and safe.. It will be a stupid piece of equipment to give you a scare.. ;)

Good thing you were home and not out shopping or something. That would be a tough one to come home to plus you would have some splainen to do

    well these are my chances..
I do live in a town thats volunteer fire.. Lucky I might get to my house before they do.. most likely I would, they are slow as shit..:D
I have always kept a good eye on motors and stuff, just seemed like one them wake up to re-do a couple little things.. the fan was metal and heat plastic.
It was hot enough to burn my finger but not melting yet, I might put it out in the yard on a extension see if it actually melts. Its froze, but still charging the motor windings..

My mom had one of those super magnifying mirrors and the sun had shined right on it and starting burning some paper. Kinda nuts.
