I'm heading down for a week in December. I've never really been on a trip like this (staying in hotels rather than hostels/camping), in such an odd city and I'm not sure what I should do there. I dislike Casinos. So far I figure I'll rent a car for a day and go drive through the desert. Thoughts/suggestions?
I've never been to Vegas. But the food's supposed to be awesome and cheap. $5 all you can eat steak and shrimp. If you want to see stand up or shows Vegas is a great place. You can go see lions and swim with dolphins and all kinds of stuff. I grew up in the desert so I don't really care about that, but it'd be something to see.
what??? ur a freak. driving in the desert sounds boring as fuck! go to circus circus, see the M&M museum thing, go to Coyote Ugly, watch the Bellagio water thing, go to a strip club, watch the Pirate Island show in the front, go on the roller coaster at New York New York (theres also a cool arcade there. or Gameworks near the M&M thing), go to the top of the Stratosphere (its so cool), go the hard rock cafe, etc. dude there are so many damn things to do.
Well if you are going to drive out into the desert, you could always visit the Hoover Dam while you are at it. Red Rock Canyon is another place you can go to, its less than 30 minutes away.Valley of Fire State Park provides an up close look at ancient Indian petroglyphs (an hour away from Vegas), and then if you don't mind going further (half a days drive) then you can see Death Valley, The Grand Canyon and Zion National Park. Everything else is pretty much involving the hotels/casinos in some way or another. Honestly if you don't like sight seeing in a city, Vegas itself will probably be very boring to you.
Like someone else said already Red Rock Canyon and Valley of fire are worth checking out. I know one of them has jeep tours, I cant remember if you get to take the jeep or if you have a driver, they also have quads for rent. That way you aren't confined to where your car can go. There is hoover damn, and lake mead. You can rent boats there. If you decide to try and swim in Lake Mead watch your step, I sunk up to my chest in something like quicksand on the shore there. The Wynn has a good buffet its like 17-18 if I remember correct but they have everything you could want. There is a bar in a courtyard in between Harrahs and Imperial Palace, I cant remember if its The circus or carnival bar. They have really good flair bartenders, go go dancers and they usually have a good mix of just about every type of music. Freemont St always has something interesting going on, and the light show is pretty cool. Thats also the place to go if you wanna play penny slots and drink for free all night. My favorite thing to do there was go driving in the desert, all kinds of cool stuff to see and I met quite a few interesting people out there. I also found some dead people though, so be careful. Most of the hotels have a lot of cool stuff to see, canals, glass art on the ceiling, trippy indoor gardens etc. It can be fun just wandering around. There is all the stuff like the water show at the Bellagio and the pirates at Treasure Island that are on the standard Vegas to see list.
i beg to differ. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_d0hEzXrWT4"]YouTube- Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998) HD trailer all jokes aside driving through the desert is really sweet for a LITTLE bit at least. I dont really know how to express my feelings for Las Vegas. In some ways i liked it, in others, the sheer depravity of many of its inhabitants disgusted me. Its well worth checking out. Something i would recommend and thoroughly enjoyed is the Stratosphere. Try the rides on the very top. It is SO much fun. Ill re-post here later when i have more time for a more comprehensive list of things to do. Have fun man.
