    Do you have a religion?

I'd like to see what marijuanna smokers think about this topic.

    Personally, I am agnostic.

No religion, but I am a freely-spiritual type, with a pantheistic outlook, with a good dose of skepticism thrown in for balance. Not easilly summed up in a few words, but it's better that way.

I'm also agnostic. People are free to belive whatever they want as long as they don't try to force their religious views on someone else.

im an atheist, but i am open to descovering the spiritual form. from my atheist point of view, there may be a higher god. but until its proven, the models that science hold are the form to live by because science is tested apon our environments, and therefor if we advance scientific understanding and growth, then our world will simply work. however, with this in mind, the christian god is not one i hold very high up the probability list. im still intruiged by spiritual happenings, and this is waht makes me open to finding the true spiritual form and medium, for any religion at the moment is generally a very primitively conceived model for which spiritual happenings are explained and justified, through the nature of the world is defined.
but i follow atheism because it is the most explorative and understanding religion. the others are all based on closed-mindedness and a set of rules. science is always open to advancement. many see this as a weakness to the -real-ness of science. i see it as a strength, and it is only a sign of the human element. it is still the only 'religion' (classified for relation purposes, and besides many strains of spirituality, where my main interest lies, for it is the pathway to any god/s anyway) that is open to new ideas, which is based on boith objective and subjective studies, and which is based on the world itself, and not on some form of intelligent being that is seperate fromt he world; and is the only one to have the constant mission of getting closer to the truth and to more understanding of its many ways.

anyway, to find the true spiritual form would not really be dropping ones atheism. because it wouldnt be a theism if it is proven true on an atheist viewpoint.

Perhaps one day I'll find a cohesion between religion and spirituality that seems to fit. Religion being the description or set system of beliefs and spirituality being the experience. Until then it's always fun to bring up the subject of 'god' in a group of heavily stoned people. Like my bro says alot "we're just a bunch of monkeys on a rock hurtling through space."

well saying that is saying a purpose was given to humans (to experience and learn) which would require some form of intelligence

I think religion is brainwash...its just a way to keep people in line. But I believe there is a higher intelligence or a 'god' at work. Where did everything come from, im not talking about life...im talking about matter that forms the planets and suns. Its not like one day all that just appeared out of nothing without something snapping their fingers. But then on the flip side of that...where did god come from? And time...time is a fuckin trip when you start thinking about it when your high. Time is this 2 dimensional never ending line that has no depth what so ever...it doesnt last for a millisecond. Its like a box with no 3rd dimension, impossible to see from the wrong angle, taking no space at all. After think about that and if physical matter exists in the past, the thought of there being alternate dimensions isnt really a far out idea at all. Scientifically, according to Einstine's theory of relativity life after death can exist because energy cant just stop it has to keep going somewhere. Anyway Im tweaking hardcore right now so all this isnt going to make sense to most of you but those are a few of my thoughts on the subject.

All in all, I just think everything is way too perfect to happen by chance.

Pantheism is not polytheism, though it sounds like it. Pantheism is most easilly summed up as "god = universe, universe = god." It doesn't even imply a thinking, willful sort of god-being (that would be panentheism). It just basically says all of existence is holy, there is no seperation between the material and the spiritual, they are one. Hinduism is pantheistic, I think, in that they believe the gods, like us, the earth, and everything else, is just another incarnation of the Holy.

Hey Bill, good post. I agree, science should agree with spirituality, but science is too slow and too clumsy for humans to cling merely to that (just like words can never describe the spiritual experience).

That said, ever read much about quantum physics? It's findings are showing that the universe really IS one. Like, when you get down to the sub-sub-atomic particles, they don't even really exist, it's more like just bits of energy interacting. The cause and the effect are not seperate, but are one, in one universe-wide web of existance, existance that is pure energy in it's form. It sounds so spiritual when I read this stuff that it blows my mind.

Even so, I don't base my belief system on science, but use it to complement it. I think the best way to know is to experience it, because experiential knowledge goes far beyond description in words and science can go.

I am a Progressive Pagan...no myths, no priestly hierarchy and of course, no human sacrifice...just a deeply personal internal awareness of the natural world, our place in it and the progress of the earth around the sun...I burn a fire at the solstice, have some friends over. We pass a bowl and play Celtic tunes...it works for me...

i guess i would be an atheist... i don't believe in the christain god, anyhoo. i believe in science and logic. i don't hold with "miracle" or whatever, call me unromantic but it's true. i think everyone is part of the same energy... i mean, that's what the universe is! just tiny microscopic vibrating atoms! its amazing! i think reality is cool enough without having to invent a god that created it all, ya know?

im an agnostic i suppose. i believe that there is some kind of higher power god type thing going on. but i dont like any of the religion (all abunch of rules, closeed mindedness, contradictions and other general bullshit).

heres an idea i had while i was high. ive got this friend who has a shirt for this band called the 420 monks. adn it struck me! the order of the 420 monks! theyd have those incense burner things full of bud and they would sing and chant about weed. sssssmmmmoOOOOOOOKKKEEE WEEEEEEEED EVERY DAY! their scripture would be kewl too. " and god gave unto jesus and the apostles some of dat binladen weed. adn john said unto the lord " yo what the fuck is bin laden weed man?" and christ replied ' iss three kinds of weed all grown all togetha"

I'm atheist. However I'm very interested in Buddhism, but I've never really taken the time to sit down and study it aside from reading a few articles on the internet here and there. The way I see it, buddhism is the one religion (correct me if i'm forgetting any) that has never been known to resort to violence or discrimination which is why it appeals to me most along with the idea of inward reflection.

Don't get me wrong there are many great people and ideas among the more popular religions, but the extremists deter me away from the religion and the intolerance.

Well, any religion could be used by people as a justification of violence/evil. You can't judge them by their worst though. I don't believe in God or the tenets of Christianity, but I know that many people are sincere in their belief and aren't fanatics. Or aren't those people who are religious for show, rather than because they are really spiritual.

But yeah, Buddhism is a really cool religion/philosophy. In fact, I really dig all Eastern religions, they all have a much more coherent philosophy than Western religions, which are too hung up on their symbolism, in my opinion. Eastern religions and Buddhism especially, cuts through the shit and lays it out plain.

Screw religon, philosophy is the only thing that will help you find justification. Religon just screws with your head and makes you a fuckin' sheep (the bible's full of that sheep shit too, they're basically admitting it)
