http://www.boston.com/news/globe/reprints/071402_whenyourdoc We should all be VERY GLAD they dont use this!! A doctors job is not one to me$$ around with!!! (Computers are not 100% accurate and if someone needed some serious work done,i think the doctors own knowledge is better had!) People rely too damn much on computers mainly because they are lazy!! (Well this isnt something to be lazy about -- sensitive issues like this SHOULD ALWAYS BE HANDLED WITH A LIVE PERSON!!))
how scary! I would hate to be sitting in a doctors office having him input my symptoms into a computer and give the diagnosis based on the computer output! I hope it NEVER comes down to this. Seriously! How many times do you hear about people attempting to fix themselves from sites such as webmd and end up causing more harm than good!
What is the problem? The software only offers suggestions and I for one would have no problem at all with it, as long as a Dr. or specialist is going to test and confirm the computers suggestions. Actually sounds like a pretty damn good idea, especially if the database is kept up to date. There is just way too much information out there and for you to expect your Dr. to keep current on it all is pretty naive to say the least. Can you search through hundreds of thousands of medical reports and studies to match up symptoms as fast as a computer can? In the example given the correct diagnosis for the plumber was a rare disease the Dr. had never even heard of before. So you think it would have been better for the poor man to suffer through a series of misdiagnosis and tests and maybe years before they discovered his problem and a remedy? If someone I love or myself is ill I want the doctors to use every available means to find a cure. Step back and re-think what you guys said.
