Seriously... the 70s were tougher and waaaaaay more oppressive than our current state.. and still there was a movement set forth by the people... saying "no! this is not right"... and now we just sit and watch and complain.. there are no actions... people are not rising up to the oppressor anymore.. they just deal with it.. and go about their business... it's fucked up.. there needs to be a movement.. there needs to be an uprising of the people! /stoned rant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4qahsyO-II&feature=related"]YouTube- Activate
We are becoming so reliable on technology that the very people who create it control us. Someone who doesn't think for themselves is a pussie.
I think it is a combination of laziness, cowardice, and most importantly ignorance. Most of us don't understand the world like we used to. Just look at all the conspiracy nuts on here. I think many would be scared into action if it wasn't for our extreme stupidity. Even the Teabaggers, who actually are scared into action, are far too stupid to be of any effect (hopefully)
I think its just so hard to get any kind of substantial social movement going, its so hard to get it coordinated, active, and meaningful. Plus who's to say this movement wont deteriorate into nothing but drugs and sex. Don't get me wrong I love drugs and sex, they're the shit, but i cant imagine waving a flag of them will ever convert suits to our side. Just like we can get 100,000 thousand like minded people together, more then enough to accomplish something, but if all they try to do is levitate the pentagon then whats the point. Having said all that the social rights movement, the LGBT rights movements, the women's rights movements, and countless other social, political, and economical revolutions have occurred regularly enough throughout history prove that, for the good or bad, the masses have proven who is in charge. The people will take the power back the day they realize they had it all along, but the question is when will that day come.
Part of it is because it's easy. Some people have a disposition (which may or may not be a product of their social environment) that inclines them to always seek the easiest path, to never scrutinize their own actions or beliefs, and to cling to that which is most convenient for them. Such people can fluorish in our society, where abundance is cheap and obedience is rewarded with mediocrity that is just good enough. Disclaimer: I'm not an activist, but at least I know enough to try to understand the system the surrounds us.
We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together. Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades. In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government. Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers. The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite. It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society....
why cant we all just sit back and read the newspaper with a nice cup of coffee eat breakfast, take the bus to work, half an hour lunch come home at 5 and watch tv have dinner, and maybe a little dessert, do the dishes, do the laundry, take a jog, then go to sleep, and on weekends take the dog out to the park maybe in PEACE
Why? Chem trails dont help- poisons in foods, the air, water, earth - toxic stupidity ! love the tune ...
It's probably because you were stoned but you kind of answered your own question. People have far less urge to uprise when they personally don't feel or (want to) see oppression.
I think those who make the wars and profit from them were/are smart enough not to start a draft. If they had,the shit would have hit the proverbial fan again. It's well nigh impossible for working people to take time off to go to Washington and kick some legislative ass. Tells ya' who belongs to the tea party. There will come a tipping point. It's coming.
Because the Revolution failed and the Revolutionaries became Doctors and lawyers and traded their politics for pottery barn. Also (more academically), while Marxism is a useful tool for analyzing history it's economic implications are a bit off base.
What revolution? 1776? The only successfull revolution I saw was the tearing away of the screen of hypocracy of what society said and what actually was true, regarding race relations, war, who makes the money and why. Economic instability causes most problems in this country and most others too. Communism, socialism, capitalism and any other" -ism" might work if greedy, power hungry fuckers were seen to be the "ism" wreckers they are. If you think people sold out--you weren't alive in the 40s,50s and 60s.
