There is a thread about the opposite, so I figured for the sake of balancing things out, and also adding some positivity, why not talk about the things we love. -The diversity in regards to the food you can eat. Never mind the cities, even in my small 7000 person village, you've got two Chinese restaurants, Greek/Italian, Indian and Mexican. Even in the city I went to for UNI, Portland Maine, which is a midsized city at best (under 750,000) you could also find Afghanistan cuisine, Thai and Vietnamese and Ethiopian, as well as the aforementioned, and many more that I am forgetting. Though I think the Afghani place has since shut down. -The farmers markets! Support your local farmers! -The national parks all around the country. There is so much natural beauty in America! -Some of the underground music in the country. There are so many good rock (indie and post), jazz and techno (ambient and IDM) albums coming out on a yearly basis. -In some cities, the strong "Buy local" vibes. Some cities have really awesome local businesses, including my UNI city. -Home to some of the best TV shows in the world: The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Curb your enthusiasm, Lost and classics such as The Chappelle show and Daria! Obviously I am forgetting a lot. -Just those average summer days by the barbecue with good people and beer. -Speaking of beer, the microbrews! After leaving America, I really miss the microbrewed ales, as I was just starting to get into them. mmmmm. Beer in America is better than most think, you just need to look for the more obscure brands. -When I was little, little league baseball and hotdogs and fries after every game. Also, bike rides to the beloved local grocery store (one of a kind and still thriving to this day) and than to the lake nearby to swim or kayak. -There is just something so simple about being a child during the summer in America. I remember countless summer days just shooting hoops all day and pretending I was Michael Jordan himself.
How the politicians have become so bone-headed that they've become self-parody, especially at the national level. One has to barely work to write political comedy. Things are much easier now. The abundance easily understood simplistic explanations for complicated problems facing the country. "They hate our freedom". The ease and low cost of being able to make yourself fat. The lowered standards of intelligence of the society, entertainment, and government in general that makes the average person feel intelligent. "At least I ain't that stupid". The availability of old age homes where you can conveniently dispose of the elderly. The widespread patriotic euphoria that makes you feel proud no matter how bad things get. Bill O'Reilly summed this up best recently when he stated how proud he was that the failed U.S. economy brings down the rest of the world but a failed French economy doesn't. .

Beautiful scenery, friendly people in some instances, unparalleled convenience, and our love of personal independence moreso than other cultures, although i do realize this creates unnecessary problems. Oh, and some of our past music and of course American literature.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore, Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" The melting pot. cultural symbiosis.
This was my favorite channel back when all they did was talk about WWII. Ever since I watched Apocalypse Island, I haven't turned it on.
We can buy our own land. That is very very hard to do in other parts of the world. Music, if you look past the media and really search underground the list is endless. I buy cds more than i buy drugs now days. Diversity. Few countrys has to deal with so many languages. It seems a lot of trash is talked outside of our country about ourselves yet our own language is growing faster then any other world wide.
