Yes, and giving up a hobby is a little bit different than getting a haircut But yeah., I already told her I wasnt going to get it cut again for a long time.
Yes, agreed. I said it relates 'somewhat' ...Well...glad, you're growing it out...I can't understand these people nowadays that are getting haircuts every 3 weeks and they go into the place looking like they just got their hair cut...Anyways, I'm saying 'good for you'... I feel like I just got a haircut myself. (started going neglect about 6 weeks ago)...my hair has shrunk up something like 40%...I can feel it tangling and knotting right now...Btw, I have rather wavy/curly hair...if I want to grow my hair long, it's either this, or a giant fro of unruly mess...lol. (think Erykah Badu)
Yeah my hair is fairly straight. I didnt cut it for about 4 months, and no comb for about 3 of those months. It was starting to "tangle" and I could feel it come undone as the hair dresser combed it. And I agree with getting it cut every 3 weeks. Cant stand that. Only people who do that should be people who keep their hair buzzed and do it themselves I am debating to do the "neglect" or do the back comb. At first I really wanted back comb because I could get more defined dreads, but as my hair has grown I began to think the "neglect" is just less to worry about. All I have to do is let my hair grow. Either way, I still havent decieded. Only time will tell
Well, I can tell you from the many times I've done backcombing and this being my first 100% neglect set, that I'm liking how these are shaping up A LOT better (after only 6/7 weeks). Backcombing does so much damage and goes through some very ugly stages, before sorting itself out...If you ask me, neglect locks look a lot better than backcombed locks...but, that's just my 2 cents. You can go on knottylocks.tk and see for yourself how the various methods turned out...it's a good resource if you want to cross-reference quickly. I also love that I do nothing to them, but wash once a week with baking soda and tea tree oil. They are separating and knotting up fast...they've been tingling on my scalp all day, I can just tell that at the one year mark they'll be sick! Note: I don't think backcombed locks suck...it's just in my experience, there's no need to go through all that...and all hair knots (straight hair might need a bit more length than curly, though)...neglect seems to dread as fast as backcombing. (at least in the people I've known)...
That's what they want you to do...wash everyday, so your scalp gets oily again day after day. Like your mother and girlfriend, it doesn't matter what these companies want you to do...it's up to you. Listen to your inner, quiet, meditative state of mind...you know what's best for you.
When I was starting out I got a lot of guff from the none dreadies, still do, its best to tune them out. I also used to be very stressed in regards to the dreading process and my lack of know how, but I have come to realize that this is a very easy hairstyle.
Yep. Yesterday at Target, as soon as I walk into the store this older woman is giving me this evil eye as she's staring at me. Just gotta accept that. If I'm having a bad day, maybe I would've tried to scare her. But, yeah, such an easy hairstyle...and fuck 'em if they don't like it...
NOpe thats mostly because I just figured it would dread if I still washed it everyday. The non-hair washing has nothing to do with them yet thats until I stop washing my hair so often and they say something, oh well. I guess I will just wash it when I want and see what happens
