its so stupid how people say metal sucks....what they fail at is that this is america and we live in it. Go to Europe, South America, Asia for a MEtal concert and then you'll see how these big time shitty bands that are big here aren't worth shit out side of the USA.

you'll never see talented metal band actually be on TV here in America, look at that Ozzfest show with those six shitty bands, non of them were of anything unique or talented. Sure they double bassed or "screamed" but non were of real interest but the same repetitive metalCORE sounding bands....

what am trying to get at here is that most metalheads here in america bitch about how metals a shithole when they themselfs dont take time to search out side for more interesting bands....

 

its easy to invade countries but if some other country was invading your city you wont be bitcching about these anti war songs..

 

the only reason american metal went downhill after pantera ended is because pantera influenced bands like Trivium, killswitch, and lamb of god

Pantera came out 9 years after Maiden.

I saw Maiden live this summer with Dream Theater, it was awesome.

Metal (in my opinion) took a shit around the time Pantera ended. Seriously, it did. Avenged Sevenfold, new Metallica, etc. all shit (in my opinion)

I have been a fan of European metal since maybe even before I was into Pantera; Soil Work, In Flames, Celtic Frost, old Children of Bodom. American metal has, for the past ten years (in my opinion) sucked. So I found metal elsewhere. I can complain about the state of american metal because it currently sucks, Black Label is alright.

Yep. Which actually got me thinking about another point I almost dare not say. Phil from Pantera is probably the best metal front man imo. He can sing clear, sing low, scream, and all the rest. I can't stand that cannibal corpse type, really low singing that sounds like the singer is about to barf. That just sounds like shit. imo

 

god yes!! pull out a joint or a bottle of jack and they all say "not cool!! i don't need all that!" and then give you the evil eyes and say something about abusing your body. then they go do that stupid dancing/headbanging/whatever that fucks your spine up and abuses your body. my high school/junior college boyfriend always talked about "straight-edge" if i so much as mentioned popping a tylenol. pissed me off so much. i was one of them in high school. :-(

I think metallers are pussies. And from someone who owns most of Madonnas back catalogue that says a lot.

This whole devil horn thing amuses me, either take a dump on your neighbours lawn and confess satan told you to do it or GFTO.

 

I believe it was invented by Dio, as part of his over the top stage persona. It just adds imagery and projects an evil tone to the music, I think it's cool. Just like death metal bands writing about decaying flesh and shit, it just adds another element to the experience that you can connect with.

 

I can't argue with that. I just have a few friends who always finnish a sentence by putting the devil horns up, it can be excessive and silly

However, Phil had expressed distaste towards bands who claimed to be influenced by Pantera and made shitty music. Not me.
