no, it isn;t an american tradition to burn the american flag. you must live on a different part of the hemipshere than i do
oh, they most assuredly are and i'm sure i'm surrounded by those who would commit violence upon a person over the burning of a red, white and blue rag but then again, i am surrounded by idiots
Yeah it is actually. When a flag is damaged from being out in the sun for too long, torn, or simply beat up, that's how you retire it. In ceremony.
parents here warn their children about the horrors of your end of the state [anything west of billings is ruled by satan]
It is a traditional act demonstrating anti-Americanism. You have to recognize that many residents of the country today have been raised and educated with a focus on only the negatives of the past. They call themselves Progressives, while they ignore the fact that most of the real progress that has occurred in the world since the founding of the U.S. has come about only because of the freedom that existed in the U.S. History does repeat, only because too often we fail to learn from it, or as in the case today, learn a convoluted version of it. For many today, the word "American" only represents the location of birth or residence, but have little in common with one another. Societies, when they exist, are much more easily conquered by division, which is happening in many countries around the world today. There will always be those who wish to wield power over others, and what greater power could be achieved than to rule the world? Freedom does not equate to equality, and equality can only be achieved by diminishing to the point of eliminating most every individual freedom. The society of the Soviet Union was one in which much greater equality existed than that of American society, but not a classless society. Freedom is not something which is given, but something that exists naturally until it is allowed to be taken away. The U.S. government began empowered only to protect the freedom that would exist naturally, not as a means of creating freedom, but only maintaining it. Religion had a great factor in defining the source of freedom initially, and many of us who are not religious can easily accept that a non-existent God makes far fewer demands upon us than could ever another human being. In any event government is not our creator, and the only thing government endows upon us is greater and greater indebtedness, something I do not want. People need to recognize that government, not businesses, corporations, or the wealthy, can wield uncontrolled power over us, and once allowed to occur, it only grows uncontrollably.
How does the patriot act feed the homeless?? Id like to read up on that as it sounds preposterous. And you speak of the government going after people like the Patriot Act allowed it? The CIA has been reading peoples letters/mail ILLEGALLY through the USPS since the 50s, illegal wire taps for 60 years, the have all your phone records, email surveillance, radar tacking, GPS tracking, helicopters with infrared and infared tracking, cars, trucks, $$$$$$$$$$. lol they can do whatever the fuck they want to do to you, no need for the "Patriot Act".. So smile like a good boy and DO WHAT THEY SAY or they'll get you!! Side note - Interestingly enough back in the 60s & 70's dave rockerfellar, george bush and ronald raegan were all in the CIA at pretty high levels together, and they've been in the white house for the past 30 years.... so power for 50 years.. Hmm, I wonder why things are still fucked up??
I myself would not burn my nations flag or the flag of any country, but I think that it is the rights of someone to do so if they wish.Freedom of expression/speech must be allowed even if we do not believe in the cause or what the people represent they still have a right to say it.If not then why would anyone else have the right to free speach or freedom of expression?!
I think its a lame, dated form of protest that has been done to the point where no one really cares. Sure it conveys a dissatisfaction with the US government on some level but who cares, nobody likes the government so whats the point? If you want to protest something burning a flag will not get your cause noticed. These days you have to step it up, preferably in a constructive manner to get peoples attention.
Freedom is not something which is given, but it can be taken. Anyone here heard about the church in Florida that plans to burn Korans on 9/11? Freedom of speech or should they be prosecuted?
dont care either way. dont see it as an bad way to protest though. seems non-violent to me. so its ok in my book
