I've been getting it a lot lately. For those who don't know,

"Derealization (DR) is an alteration in the perception or experience of the external world so that it seems strange or unreal." - Wikipedia

Even familiar places just strike me as odd sometimes, or my enviroment may even feel completely unreal. I don't know how to describe the feeling to somebody who has never felt it... the feeling that an object directly in front of your eyes doesn't really exist. On one hand, it's a cool new perspective. I can mentally step back from situations and just observe them as they happen. It's literally like watching movie. On the other hand, it can be scary. Feeling like everything around you, including people, are completely unreal can be discomforting. I realize that's an effect people sometimes strive for with psychedelics (myself included), but when you get it on-and-off for a month it begins to lose its novelty.

It started after a bong rip of salvia one day. I had done it before without breaking through and I was fine. In fact, this time when I tried it, I didn't even feel anything. Within minutes of hitting the salvia though, I packed a tight bowl of sour diesel (high quality weed). I'm a daily smoker but I hadn't smoked for about a week at this point so I was expecting to get pretty stoned. When I started hitting the bowl, the derealization started to come on. I dismissed it at the time as part of smoking a bowl of sour d. It didn't go away though. I also got this weird body high-ish kind of feeling that stayed for about a week afterwards.

My friend who has broken through on salvia multiple times has been getting the same thing since he first broke through, as well as depersonalization. I myself haven't gotten any depersonalization, however.

Google tells me derealization isn't all that uncommon and if you don't think about it, it goes away. That's been true for the most part but I still get it sometimes. Shit is weird. I really hope this isn't a sign I should stay away from stronger psychedelics, because I've been searching high and low for shrooms and/or LSD for a while now. Has anyone else experienced this or have any advice?

I was with a girl that had DP. It's a strange thing and sucks for the people under its control all of the time. After 3-5 months I started getting it!! I left her because of mmmany other reasons and after that I haven't had any occurences. Sometimes I like out of body experiences, but DP is more like your looking at a movie screen and your body feels alien.
DP - I can;t be around these people they affect my own state and i've heard they affect other people i'm not the only one!
Usually people get it because of serious trauma

I get it sometimes. I had it today when I went out to eat. My friend ordered and ice tea and it was of.....some brand I forgot. But I just truly believed it was actually a different brand and I was hallucinating the one that it was. Or something. I don't know, it's complicated haha.

one time I ate mushrooms 3 days after went to school and ate the remnants of the stems and crystals with my friend and expected to get pretty high. I ended up in the forest sitting beside my notebook thinking I had invented my new school and that I was a lost in a world I had created aroundme. Wrote it all down

Yep yep. After I started doing acid I got derealization pretty bad...Didn't really bother me though...I kinda liked it. I've always been a huge video game nerd and everyone started to remind me of characters off a game. Everyones personalities seemed more vivid and eccentric even though they really weren't. I just appreciated people for themselves more than before.

But after a couple bad acid trips I started to get the depersonalization. Not a fan of that. Couldn't really relate to people...conversations always seemed strained and forced..really awkward stuff.

The depersonalization actually made the derealization not any fun either. Everytime someone would speak to me it was like I was deep inside myself watching it happen in kind of an odd movie.

This is all actually pretty recent...I'm just now mentally getting what I would consider stable again. But honestly I've accepted I'll never see things the way I did before.

I HONESTLY know what you're feeling. I've been struggling with the feeling for the past six months and am just now getting it under control. Hit me up if you wanna talk more about it.

I've had this many times. I've learned not to fear it anymore. Sometimes it just happens. Consciousness is a funny thing.

Sometimes the weight of reality seems to lift for a moment, and when it does one can realise that the body and the physical world is not the only one. That's the best thing I can take out of a moment of derealization/depersonalization.

It's a mind over matter thing, nothing serious. It may come and go. If you live in the moment it goes away.

I have had a little bit of derealization now and then, especially at night (less sensory input) ever since I started doing DXM. I had more of it around November/December, which I attribute to the shorter days, less sun/sensory input. It should go away. It mostly has for me. But personally I kind of like the feeling.

This has happened to me a few times, I never knew there was a name for it. I like it, it feels very zen to me. I get this feeling sometimes when i'm out in nature. I always described it as being in the matrix, because it almost feels like the earth isn't real, but my consciousness is real and was imbedded in the earth. It almost feels like i'm trespassing and shouldn't be in nature. I dunno, i can't really describe it.
