My neighbour wanted me to post this for him.

Though there is obviously no scientific evidence, myself and others have noticed chemical effects after handling/weighing out various RC's. This seems most notable for this are the 2cx chemicals. I had a full blown (~15mg) trip after weighing out some 2ci doses. It happened again while weighing out 5meoDALT. In both situations care was taken not to get hands my anywhere near my mouth. There was no breeze so there was none in the air to be breathed in.

This leaves transdermal absorption as the only explanation. I guess that means that one should use surgical gloves when handling these chems and don't have time for a trip!

BTW, I can't take credit for this type of post, I just think it's important info!

Yeah, be careful handling things that are active in the low mg range - you may be able to absorb via a variety of modalities . . . and inadvertently dose yourself when you don't want to trip or OD yourself when you do . . .

Other safety issues, worth repeating for the home chemist:

Always keep your area as clean as possible and if your "lab" is in your kitchen make sure your drug and food preparation areas, tools and containers are completely separate and that the twain shall never meet. This includes cleanup areas, tools, sponges, etc. . . .

Always wear long sleeves, full pants, socks and shoes.

Don't skimp. Don't fool yourself into thinking a paint mask will do it. Always use a double-cartridge respirator.

You can never have too much ventilation. Small, strong fans are cheap at Wal-mart - buy a bunch and place them in the window(s) and strategically in the work area to guide fumes outside the work area.

Use eye protection all the time. No matter what. Some of these chemicals can blind you instantly and permanently with one single exposure . . . it's not worth it.

Control for and eliminate all sources of flame, spark, etc. Turn off the heater, the stove, the oven, etc. and that includes the pilot light. No one should smoke in the area; no one should do anything to make a spark. Be super careful.

Always use heavy gloves that are specifically rated to work with the chemicals you will use in your extraction or synthesis.

Before beginning a tek, read it over at least 3 times and make sure you understand and have a sense of what to do if something goes sideways. If you don't, do more research, ask more questions, before beginning.

    Follow directions precisely.

Your first bioassay should be at a very, very low range, like pre-threshold on erowid's charts. You can work you way up . . . .

Remember, slow and steady wins the race.

    Let's grow this list . . .

15mg is a very visible amount of powder . . . you should wash your hands before and after handling, and wash any instruments used before and after.

That is true. That said it isn't hard to get it on your fingers. Even if you do wash after weighing it may be too late. Just wear gloves and VIOLA! Problem solved!

I never noticed anything like that from handling grams of 2cxs at a time.
Even had some 2cp in the air at one point (could visibly see it in the light), and made an attempt to inhale as much of it as possible with no notable effect.

Same experience as smitty except the 2cp part. I've handled grams of 2cx chemicals and no noticeable effects if a slight amount has got on the skin and stuff, I've seen amounts that should produce threshold effects at least. I have at most had I guess a slight slight sort of headache from some of the smells but certainly no psychoactive effects.

My experience as well, though I have worn gloves handling DOI before.
