so I haven't had my period since july 31. I mad a doctors appointment. and no I am not with child. anyone ever had this happened to them? any ideas what it could be?
The only thing I can think of is that when some women are quite a bit underweight their period stops. I don't know if that's the case with you, but that's all I can think of.
This is all I found at the moment; "A: Hi nicoleh, If you are worried about missed periods, know that it is common to skip a period once in a while. If you are sure you are not pregnant, the missed period could be due to: stress, travel, sudden weight gain or weight loss, or increased levels of exercise (missed periods are common in athletes). Your period should straighten out in a month or two. If it does not, see you doctor.. " "A: I havent had a period in 8 months, I've done tests I'm not pregnant, starting to get a bit worried too,I have put on weght I wondered if that would bea problem, beforemy perods stopped completely they had become very irregular and very very heavy to thepoint that I couldn't standup without blood running down my leg! Also me & my partner haven't used protection since my son was born (he was 3 in december) so I'm quite worried, whats going on I know I should go docs but I'm shy about these things lol but think I may have to give in and go soon! Anxiety can cause missed periods. I missed a couple a few years ago, and it was anxiety related for me.
I have not seen the doctor yet, i will next week, I am on meds for my depression and sleep and worring, so maybe that's why
about half of the time, they are late. maybe it is just stress, a few months ago, it skiped a whole month like this time
Medication can also affect periods, I know some anti depressants definitely do. So, it's more than likely to be something connected to that.
How old are you? If you are young, and light for your height (you mentioned weight, but i missed height if you posted it) or (already covered here) have extremely low body fat, skipping one or more periods is perfectly normal. But, you might want to get a general check just to rule out weirdness like uterine fibroids or such . . . .
Jennifer - it could be so many things from stress and depression, to diet and lifestyle, to ovarian cysts, to hormonal imbalance and so on. Every few years my period goes wacky. I didn't get my period at all from 18 to almost 20 and I skipped it from Jan-July of this year. When I was younger, I went to muliple gyns and specialists who couldn't find anything wrong. The general consensus was "enjoy not having your period, it's more serious when you get it too heavy/too often" which I didn't really appreciate, since I was sitll having cramps and PMS, just no bleeding and it just doesn't seem healthy or normal for a woman not on birth control to stop menstrating. I finally went to an endochrinologist whose tests also came back all normal, but he suspected I could still be pre-diabetic or have PCOS (it doesn't always show in tests). He put me on insulin-regulating medicine called Metformin and after about a month my period returned to normal and I lost all the weight I mysteriously gained over the past 2 years that I couldn't get off no matter what. In my case it seems as though just because test results don't show anything, it doesn't mean there's nothing wrong. This time around, I don't have medical insurance so I just upped my Metformin and hoped for the best. I seem to be fine now. You might have to go through a few doctors and many different tests to find a solution, but don't give up and don't let the doctors brush you off and tell you there's nothing wrong. Good luck, let us know what you find out.
I know that there is a pill that you take and it makes your period show up the next day. It's only for extreme cases though. I don't remember the name... You have to go to the doctor because you need a prescription for it.
