In the first instance man is created in the image and likeness of god. The serpent tells eve she will be like god having the knowledge of good and evil. This is a deception, we were already like god, being created in the image and likeness of god, and the knowledge of good and evil does exactly the opposite of making one like god. God is good only. The truth is there was no shame in "nakedness", we were separate from gods truth in perception, but not in fact. Sin, to miss gods sign, it is there always, it just escapes us because we are looking for something else. What the seeing see that they need to be blinded to in order to see the truth, is that arbitrary designation of good and evil, judgment. Exactly, but the conclusion we came to was mistaken.
The fall of man is the fall into his own history in that his own history has himself falling from grace, being fashioned from dust as opposed to being created in the likeness of god. It is an authority problem. Who do you believe God or man. Forgiveness restores our sight of our brother as god created him. The two versions of creation are different versions, not complimentary ones.
I actually just went back and read all that (well most of that) chapter and some of the one before it...and it seems that somebody is offering advice to tell the living to Live and Don't dwell in the past, etc. It talks about the envy, love and hatred of the dead being forgotten... I don't think this particular scripture means that when physically dead, one is no more - only that when dead, one cannot bother the living - unless they let it!
You know your bible, worldsofdarkblue. Did He not also compare various things on judgement day to Sodom and Gomorrha (sp?) saying it would be better to be one of those inhabitants than whatever He was comparing S & G to...seems like it might have even been a Pharasee or a stumbling block.
About God being a God of the living, not the dead... being dead.... I think we have a soul, which God will deal with whenever the time is... Maybe it is later, maybe it is then Jesus told the one next to him on the cross "today I shall see you in paradise." Maybe the difference between being dead physically and with/in front of The Creator is the blink of an eye.
You flatter me, Lynnbrown - but I must say in honesty that I don't know it all that well. I simply remember enough of it to stay in SOME conversations. Now OlderWaterBrother, thedope, def zeppelin and ukr-cdn - those guys know the bible!
Actually I can hear the living word. The words I hear, I have to go look up in the bible. I am not a bible scholar by any means. If you want biblical quotes then waterbrother is your guy.
Which death is this? The first sleep death or the final destruction death? If it is the former, then you are doing what Peter warns in his second letter. There is a hope for thsoe who you call only sleep dead (in fact, I argue that although their boies sleep their souls are already judged and either living with God or in hell) and their memory is certainly not forgotten (look at the memorial of the Saints, those known and unkown). Also, if you look in the book some more, there is no mention of any ressurection. There is the suggestion that at death, there is simply an eternal nothingness. No one is ressurected. This is contrary to Christian theology, and Jesus whole mission. He is the Ressurection and the Hope.
You are a fascinating person, thedope. Have you always had the living word in your ear? Or did it begin to reach you at some particular stage of life? And did you recognize it for what it is right away, or did it take time for you to realize what it is?
It was not always so. It did not start until I made the commitment that "finding god" would be my full time occupation. I withdrew from the world and I refused to seek outside of prayer and meditation. I lived wholly off the grid for 18 months given totally to contemplation. During that time I asked for clarity the answers to questions that concerned me like why did I struggle with sin. This constant uninterrupted dialogue with the ethereal I began to hear the answers to my questions as statements of principle or "true statements". What I say here in these forums comes to me in the moment, is part of that dialogue. I recognized it for what it is because it was like I could suddenly see the punchline to what was going on around me, I saw misery and I saw that it need not be. I saw that we have enmity against our brothers is because we do not recognize ourselves. We come to know that we are indeed children of god when our blessing of forgiveness begins to redeem those around us. The power to forgive sins is a gift of holiness.
That's a wonderful story. It seems that those before you who have taken the opportunity to leave the world for meditative purposes are also rewarded with insight. If only we were all so inclined. I'd think you did a fair amount of research (reading) as well, yes?
You love your mother just the same as you love your wife? So are you saying you have sex with your mother or is it that you don't have sex with your wife?
Substance please? I have been and when you start with some substance yourself and stop dodging the questions, I'll give you some more substance.
Yes it is, because you deviated so far from the Bible, all that is left is trying to reason with you. As you put it, this is "gibberish". That is true but yet your "postulated interpretation" does blame God. As you put it, this is "gibberish". Once again you quote the Bible with concern for what the scripture is actually saying. Actually no, there is a difference between a conscious decision and dreaming. Dreaming is the result of sleep and a conscious decision is something we willingly do.
