    Hello All

my first post but have been lurking and reading here for a long time.

My question is I have never done any psychedelics or smoked weed but have done meditation and want to try psychedelics deeper insight.

I have been diabetic for 30plus year and take insulin and blood pressure tablets.

What would be the first course of action?

    thanks for reading

How bad off is your blood pressure? That would be my main concern were I you I think. Moments of high anxiety could give you trouble in that case.

Strongly advise sticking to a meditative setting and just micro-dosing once a week. Start with 1/4 tab and add 1/4 tab to it every friday or saturday or whatever. It might take you 3 weeks to notice anything but it will give you a much better idea of how it might impact you.

(Yes I know I usually recommend Heroic-doses but not if theres any sort of heart condition or BP issues.)

From a standpoint of "body load" (physical effects of a substance) LSD has the least of any of the major psychedelics.

What are the physiological effects of LSD?

"These are surprisingly mild, considering the monumentally disruptive nature of the psychic effects. There is an increase in blood pressure and heart rate, but not enough to be alarming. The blood sugar also goes up slightly. There may be other sporadic symptoms: nausea, chills, flushes, irregular breathing, sweating of palms, trembling of extremities. These manifestations are all transitory. Appetite is affected, but mainly because the subject is too enthralled by his own sensations to be interested in food; later he is ravenously hungry. Sleep is virtually impossible until at least eight or 10 hours after the whole LSD episode is over. The pupils of the eyes are widely dilated so that dark glasses are often worn even at night for protection against the light. With an average dose, .0001 of a gram, the effects begin within an hour and last for eight to 10 hours. A bigger dose speeds up and intensifies the experience, increasing the possibility of panic."

Regarding any type of containdications between your medications and LSD, you would have to research it with the specific medications you are taking.

Is your primary Dr. the type that you could ask such questions of?

Wish I could offer more specific info for your situation.

    Hi Fritz

The blood pressure is well maintained with the tablets and no heart problems

my main concern is maintaining the sugars during the trip which I hear can last up to 12 hours

Would I still be able to do my blood readings during the trip?

I was going to take a lower dose of insulin and increase calories as a couple of days of raised sugars is not going to be to bad.

my main concern was having read trip reports that people have lost concept of time.

Don't worry too much about the time-dialation. It's a real factor of most trips but it's not like you float away into another world where time doesn't exist (unless you dose ultra high lol) So setting a timer with a reminder note would be a good idea. Or, if you can have a sober person with you for some or all of the trip who can remind you/help you to do your readings that would be ideal.

I'm pre-diabetic and I will warn you though, that sometimes the body load of certain psyches seem to hit me harder than other people, especially during the comeup, and sometimes I even have a hard time telling if I'm actually feeling sick or if it's just my perception of it. I think it has more to do with the fact that I usually fast for 12+ hours before dosing, which I certainly don't recommend for you. I'm usually OK, but sometimes it can get a little uncomfortable. I would start with a low dose of whatever substance you choose for your first time to gauge your physical reaction.

Thanks SweetBlasphemy as long as I am able to carry out my basic functions then that puts me at ease.

My worry was that when I have gone on my retreats and during my meditation have been so absorbed that have failed to notice my sugars have dropped so low until the gong has rang for the end of the hourly sit after which i have been able to take the glucose and restore.

The up side is some of my highest insights have been when the sugars have been low but only hindsight has shown that the sugars were low.

hope this makes sense to the non diabetics

    Thanks

Depending on dose you many not be able to consistently. So start low, and work your way up next time. The combination of confusion, forgetfulness, procrastination, time distortion, and sensory overload, that I sometimes get on LSD, definitely makes even the easiest of tasks very complicated.

Not a doctor, but i wouldn't worry at all about the bp. The diabetes though - i'd prepare a number of very small, light, nutritious snacks in advance and literally set an alarm (or something equally hardcore) to remind myself to EAT little bits throughout the day. Also, of course, you want to ensure you are down/sober enough when it's time to administer your insulin, unless you have someone to help medicate you. You might need an alarm for this too. LSD can be quite a trip and there are many distractions the first time . . .

I would get my wife to keep an eye on the time and insulin. The food side I was going to keep some fruit and cereal bars handy which is what I do when I go on my retreats.

The problem is my wife and two teens haven't been told yet that I am embarking down this path. I will tell the wife closer to the time she probably wont know what LSD or psychedelics are just as I didn't know till a year ago.

Its only speaking to fellow mediators on retreats that I came to know.

thank you all for your advise and input its makes this journey less daunting.

Which psychedelic would you guys recommend to start with?

    LSD without a doubt.
It honestly has the least amount of physiological side effects than any other, and will provide you with a pretty good picture of what it is about.
Mushrooms and any cactus concoctions produce a much heavier"body load" and can be less consistency regarding potency. I hope you have a trustworthy and knowledgeable source so you can have a good idea of the strength of the particular doses you would get.
Sadly there is no "regulating agency" to control and verify strength.
Some batches will be strong enough that one dose is all you need, some others may require multiple doses to achieve the same effects.
You are starting in the right manner by researching and asking questions.
Hope you come across some decent quality and enjoy the experience.:)

I don't have any sources yet other then chatting to the contacts I made on my retreat so lets if it happens

Psychedelic tolerance builds very fast. Best thing would to maybe take 1/4 - 1/2 dose as an introduction to it and then wait a week and take what you feel would be right for you based on the previous experience.

Though there is a lot to be said for just taking a good dose right off the bat. Often smaller dose can actually be a little more anxiety producing than a moderate to large dose.

First thing is to understand that LSD will not completely overwhelm you and leave you a drooling blob for 8 hours, unless you take a "hero dose" :p.

It does not produce true hallucinations, things that aren't real, but rather "modifies" your sensory input and the manner in which it is processed.
Often the build up and anxiety on the come up (a little anxiety is normal with all psychs in the first 1-2 hours), but after the experience is in full swing you will often think "What was all the concern about, this is rather nice".

Also KNOW that LSD really is a very safe and benign substance physiologically. That assurance will save lots of anxiety.

Happy trails and hope you are successfully in your search.
