    Hi,

I have been suffering from anxiety disorder for 30 years. From recent experience, I found that mantra meditation is giving me lot of relief. Within a month, I am able to do 40 mins meditation twice a day. I am not forcing my meditation, I actually enjoy these sessions.

Now I want to a add a third session of 40 mins (so it comes to a total of 2 hrs of mantra meditation each day).

But I am afraid to add the third session as I read some horror stories about excessive meditation. Especially, since I have this anxiety disorder for so many years, I am afraid that doing 2 hrs of meditation every day may backfire, bring all anxiety and unpleasant experiences out at once.

But so far I never had any unpleasant experiences. I always enjoy my meditation sessions.

What should I do? Can I go ahead with the third session? Please advise me.

    Thank you.

Yes. It is possible to meditate to much. Ultimately it is really up to you to guess what to much is, but if you want my advice... be patient! You've only been meditating for a month! 40 minutes sessions is alot.

I mean, I don't want to tell you what to do, meditation is personnal, but instead of doing 40 min /twice a day, you could do 20 min / 4 times, and see the difference. I'm NOT saying that you should change anything. But experiment with different meditations, and listen to your body.

By doing 4 times 20 min. instead of 2 times 40 min, you let your body «integrate» meditation between sessions, and when your next session comes, you really pay close attention, just before meditating, to whether or not your body actually feels like meditating.

It's important to listen to the impulse to meditate, and also to listen to the impulse not to meditate. The impulse not to meditate is actually really important because it is a sign that you're doing something that is uncomfortable for who you are. Really ask yourself : «Right now, do I need more?»

Ultimately it is up to your body.

    Hi,

Thank you for your response. I will not add more sessions. I will experiment with 20 min sessions and see how I feel.

Few other people also suggested to have patience. Looks like that is the way to go. Thank you again for the advice.
