Darn, wish i had seen this earlier, hard to resist a wager.

But with all the planned US flag burnings on 9/11 i wouldn't doubt a Qur'an or two ends up in ash.

The burning wouldn't have even made sense anyway. They (supposedly)attack our country and burn our flags, so we burn...their holy book?

Somewhere a lot of taoists are just hearing about this and just sighing.

 

It was supposed to be in response to the building of an Islamic cultural center near Ground Zero.
It also wasn't "we" and "they" it is more like "him" and ...erm, Hisham Elzanaty.

Mr Elzanaty had earlier told the Associated Press that his partnership has already received offers of three times that much for the site. “Develop it, raze it, sell it,” he said. “If someone wants to give me 18 or 20 million dollars today, it’s all theirs.”

 

He reminds me a lot of Fred Phelps.

I've been watching him in the interviews and I think I've got it figured out.

He's a nobody who wants to be a somebody, but doesn't have the intellectual capacity to get it on his own. I think he dreamed up this scheme to get some attention and free advertising on the local news and build up his congregation and get more donations. Before he knew it the world was at his door and since his revelation was from God, he was backed into a corner. But, he figured he could ride it out, thought, and milk it for all he could get.

Then came the death threats and world wide anger directed at him, but, still, after all, some rather important people are now talking to him and he feels important. As the clock counts down the hours, he's starting to realize that he's in a bit of a jam and maybe his idea wasn't so good after all, especially when the FBI and god knows who else shows up at his door. I think he's probably at the point now where he realizes those death threats just might be serious and the whole world hates him.

I don't think he has the guts to strike that match when it comes down to it.

Some people like peace and others like conflict, I guess that's what makes the world go around, intermittently.

Many people fail to consider the consequences of their actions until they get to the emergency room and talk to the Priest.

i wish he would have done it. all over the world, people are in fear of offending muslims and they are gaining followers because they have proven that they can be the most aggressive and violent religion out there.

people are afraid to express any criticism of the religion because somebody might blow up their house.

 

Criticism is a fair expression, but outright insults only reflect poorly on the person insulting. When it comes to Islam, most Americans don't know enough to give a fair criticism, so they sling insults to cover their ignorance.

How would you respond if someone publicly insulted your very existence and degraded you as a human being, again and again and again?

And why do you think some people have this need to Offend others?

who cares why people try to offend each other, the point is that people shouldn't have to fear being killed because they offended somebody. and people cowering in fear give that type of mentality even more power. then there are people like you that defend it and say that muslims should be exempt from insults because they've had it hard enough already... jesus christ

remember the danish comic controversy? and that was all over a cartoon of mohammed.

 

"Muslims" are not "proving" that they are "the most aggressive and violent religion out there." TERRORISTS have PROVEN that they are VIOLENT and REACTIONARY.

All major world religions (Buddhism, perhaps, excluded) have equally violent histories. Fear of another person's religion only proves ignorance. Intelligent people do not play with rattlesnakes when they want them out of their yard. "Yeah, I'm gonna show this rattlesnake who's boss by prodding it with a stick!"

Islam is not "gaining followers" because they are "proving themselves" to be violent. Would you join a religion because it was violent? Would anyone? Oh, sorry, maybe only brown people do that. No. Islam is the fastest-growing religion because of high birthrates in third world countries -- not because large numbers of people are converting to Islam.

I certainly don't want to live in the Muslim world, but your world kinda sucks, too. I govern my behavior according to my own values, not as a reaction to poor values of others. Fear is not the issue, when you insult them, you become just like them. I see no difference in the Islamic terrorists and the so-called Christians burning their holy book and depriving American Muslims their Constitutional Rights. Both are wrong.
