Can anyone enlighten me about Krishna? I would love to know more about this divine being! Peace and love
Are you sure! He might steal your clothes while you are bathing, flirt with you, tease you, steal your stuff, and dance with you in the moonlight and do a lot of naughty things. Beware.
Please tell me more about him! Hinduism is one religion that I know little about. I want to educate myself more about this religion. Peace and love
Hare Krsna! There is so much to learn from Him, read the Bhagavad Gita. You can read it for free, at least one translation in English : http://www.asitis.com/1/index.html Much love to you and good luck Your friend, John
You already know a lot about hinduism. Buddha was a hindu prince, and many of his teachings are hindu, they originated in hinduism, like karma, dharma, samadhi, nirvana, yoga, meditation and stuff. The Dalai Lama himself said that hinduism and buddhism are sister religions and are extremely similar to each other. So you know about hinduism a lot, not completely though. Shakya Muni ( Buddha ) came not to destroy, but he was the fulfilment, the logical conclusion, the logical development of the religion of the Hindus. ---Swami Vivekananda Vivekananda , the Hindu prophet, loved Buddha deeply, and placed him along with Krisha and Ramakrishna , as his main influences. Vivekananda started the tradition of initiating monks in the Ramakrishna Mission , before a statue of the buddha.

He (Krishna ) is the most rounded man I know of , wonderfully developed equally in brain and heart and hand. Every moment of his is alive with activity, either as a gentleman, warrior, minister or something else. Great as a gentleman, as a scholar, as a poet. This all-rounded and wonderful activity and combination of brain and heart you see in the Gita and other books. Most wonderful heart, exquisite language, and nothing can approach it anywhere. This tremondous activity of the man -- the impression is still there. Five thousand years have passed and he has influenced millions and millions. Just think what an influence this man has over the whole world, whether you know it or not. My regard for him is for his perfect sanity. No cobwebs in that brain, no superstition. He knows the use of everything, and when it is necessary to assign a place to each, he is there. ---Vivekananda This was the great work of Krishna: To clear our eyes and make us look with broader vision upon humanity it its march upward and onward. His was the first heart that was large enough to see truth in all, his the first lips that uttered beautiful words for each and all. ---Vivekananda Two ideas stand supreme in his message: The first is the harmony of different ideas; the second is non-attachment. ---Vivekananda A great landmark in the history of religion is here, the ideal of love for love's sake, work for work's sake, duty for duty's sake, and it for the first time fell from the lips of the greatest of Incarnations, Krishna, and for the first time in the history of humanity, upon the soil of India. The religions of fear and of temptations were gone for ever, and in spite of the fear of hell, and temptation of enjoyment in heaven, came the grandest of ideals, love for love's sake, duty for duty's sake, work for work's sake. ---Vivekananda
"When I read the Bhagavad-Gita and reflect about how God created this universe everything else seems so superfluous." - Albert Einstein "The Bhagavad-Gita calls on humanity to dedicate body, mind and soul to pure duty and not to become mental voluptuaries at the mercy of random desires and undisciplined impulses." "When doubts haunt me, when disappointments stare me in the face, and I see not one ray of hope on the horizon, I turn to Bhagavad-Gita and find a verse to comfort me; and I immediately begin to smile in the midst of overwhelming sorrow. Those who meditate on the Gita will derive fresh joy and new meanings from it every day." -Mahatma Gandhi "The Bhagavad-Gita has a profound influence on the spirit of mankind by its devotion to God which is manifested by actions." - Dr. Albert Schweizer "The Bhagavad-Gita is the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind. It is one of the most clear and comprehensive summaries of perennial philosophy ever revealed; hence its enduring value is subject not only to India but to all of humanity." - Aldous Huxley "The Bhagavad-Gita is a true scripture of the human race a living creation rather than a book, with a new message for every age and a new meaning for every civilization." - Aurobindo "In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad-Gita, in comparison with which our modern world and its literature seems puny and trivial." - Henry David Thoreau "The marvel of the Bhagavad-Gita is its truly beautiful revelation of lifes wisdom which enables philosophy to blossom into religion." - Herman Hesse "The Bhagavad-Gita deals essentially with the spiritual foundation of human existence. It is a call of action to meet the obligations and duties of life; yet keeping in view the spiritual nature and grander purpose of the universe." - Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru "I owed a magnificent day to the Bhagavad-Gita. It was the first of books; it was as if an empire spoke to us, nothing small or unworthy, but large, serene, consistent, the voice of an old intelligence which in another age and climate had pondered and thus disposed of the same questions which exercise us." - Ralph Waldo Emerson "The Bhagavad-Gita is an empire of thought and in its philosophical teachings Krishna has all the attributes of the full-fledged montheistic deity and at the same time the attributes of the Upanisadic absolute." - Ralph Waldo Emerson "In order to approach a creation as sublime as the Bhagavad-Gita with full understanding it is necessary to attune our soul to it." - Rudolph Steiner "The Bhagavad-Gita is not seperate from the Vaisnava philosophy and the Srimad Bhagavatam fully reveals the true import of this doctrine which is transmigation of the soul. On perusal of the first chapter of Bhagavad-Gita one may think that they are advised to engage in warfare. When the second chapter has been read it can be clearly understood that knowledge and the soul is the ultimate goal to be attained. On studying the third chapter it is apparent that acts of righteousness are also of high priority. If we continue and patiently take the time to complete the Bhagavad-Gita and try to ascertain the truth of its closing chapter we can see that the ultimate conclusion is to relinquish all the conceptualized ideas of religion which we possess and fully surrender directly unto the Supreme Lord." - Swami Prabhupada "The secret of karma yoga which is to perform actions without any fruitive desires is taught by Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita." - Vivekananda "The Bhagavad-Gita was spoken by Lord Krishna to reveal the science of devotion to God which is the essence of all spiritual knowledge. The Supreme Lord Krishnas primary purpose for descending and incarnating is relieve the world of any demoniac and negative, undesirable influences that are opposed to spiritual developement, yet simultaneously it is His incomparable intention to be perpetually within reach of all humanity." - Ramanuja "From a clear knowledge of the Bhagavad-Gita all the goals of human existence become fulfilled. Bhagavad-Gita is the manifest quintessence of all the teachings of the Vedic scriptures." - Adi Sankara "The Bhagavad-Gita is where God Himself talks to His devotee Arjuna." - Paramahansa Yogananda "Nothing has ever arisen in my life, internal or external, that the Gita has not made clear and enabled me to deal with or understand." - Swami Nirmalananda Giri "The Geeta is the universal mother. I find a solace in the Bhagavadgeeta that I miss even in the Sermon in the Mount. When disappointment stares me in the face and all alone I see not one ray of light, I go back to the Bhagavad Gita. I find a verse here and a verse there, and I immediatly begin to simile in the midst of overwhelming tragedies - and my life has been full of external tragedies - and if they have left no visible or indelible scar on me, I owe it all to the teaching of the Bhagavad Gita." - Mahatma Gandhi The Bhagavad Gita is the best commentary we have on the Vedanta philosophy-curiously enough on the scene is laid on the battlefield, where Krishna teaches this philosophy to Arjuna, and the doctrine which stands out luminously in every page of the Gita is intense activity, but in the midst of it, eternal calmness. This is the secret of work, to attain which is the goal of the Vedanta. -- Vivekananda
Wow! Lots of great quotes on the Bhagavad Gita! Are there any good translations that are better than others? Peace and love
Sure! just type in bhagavad gita in google, you will get alot of translations. All translations pretty much say the same thing. That is, if you read the actual translation rather than commentary.
Krishna expands as Balarama, then Balarama - as Sankarshana. From Sankarshana - Narayana. Then from Narayana - another Sankarshana. From this second Sankarshana - Mahavishnu. Mahavishnu breathes out and material universes appear - their number is like number of mustard seeds in a bag. And into each material universe Mahavishnu eneters as Garbhodakashayi-Vishnu. And still in every hear Krishna is as Ksirodakashayi-Vishnu, though He comes through Ksirodakashayi-Vishnu so people usually think that Krishna is avatara of this Kshirodakashayi-Vishnu.
Krishna is happy. He is an expert linguistic - He speaks all languages, also animal Krishna is artistic, especially with the way He dresses. Imagine the most beautiful and attractive thing you've ever seen. The source of that most beautiful thing is Krishna - He is the source of all attractive qualities. As a matter of fact, He is that attractive quality in anything. If something attracts you, it is because Krishna has placed His potency in it. Krishna means 'all-attractive'. Imagine seeing Krishna face to face. "I really want to see you Lord, but it takes so long, my Lord...Hare Krishna.." lala la
Krishna, is the fresh air and the skies so expansive, within the tiniest grain of sand and the biggest sunray, much is said, yet no progress is made in describing the immanent reality whom is the beloved, within all, and Love itself liberating all through the compassionate yoga of being ;ole like warmth through a hole in the clouds on a cool day this is a loving existence, wholly holy, holes and all for Krishna is also Rhadarani, they are inseperable and one, twin flames and symbolic as we all are within the cosmic circle of manifestation of the great eternal unity, the divine being, friend to all, smiling guide and radiant healer avatar whose intricate being is the world, and through in contemplation realizes again and again, this oneness, drawing all beings to him who are smiled upon and aided. He is a manifestation of Vishnu, who arises from Brahman and so is Atman as well, the preserver of the universe who aids through many forms, shapeshifting always playing an integral archetypal role in the universe and consciousness as a principle of ascension and reliever of suffering, bestower of blessings and imparter of divine realization and enlightenment, and the greatest of loves. The spirit of his devotees is of such a weightless and gracious joy and passion, as I have felt, wandering along some pathways near my home, when the realization of his presence came upon me, sometimes through the most mundane things at first, and springing forth the name, the endlessly unfolding blossom, which is the lotus within the core chakra which brings all actions to a wholeness and takes consciousness a plane of prajna paramita wisdom, through metta, devoted practive, and falling in love with all things, one knows krishna, who is everywhere, never can he be described, always paradoxical, cunning, noble, and true...

Krishna, Krishna, Hare! Because the sky is beautiful and the smells within and around me are as well, and this love, all those I know this great ecstatic dance, it is the dance of your brilliant life, so many words, I send these words as sigils, each letter burns happily with eternal love for you each awaits your notice, each comes from deep inside, and yet I know you also reside there as well, each letter is you! oh, oh, the infinity of it all, Krishna, you who are nature, in the hills, enlightened and teaching through all phenomenon the way, holding all to your bosom of milky love and laughing as the stars the sun and the moon do KRISHNA! I am all creation unto you, and you are that unto me, when I wander, thinking of you in some form, I know I have made some stumbling drunken path those are the markings of my soul in flight, pouring through the spaghetti of divine frenzy healing all the townsfolk with our perfect union, jittering with the stillness of THAT BLESSED AFFECTION! which comes from the completeness of existence Krishna you have ended all injustice and restored every relationship KRISHNA YOU HAVE TRULY ROCKED US ALL IN A WAY WE HAD FORGOTTEN FROM THE BEGINNING OF ALL!
Krishna is the attractive qualities in everything true, but also the unattractive qualities. Nothing is outside Krsna the true Godhead. Unattractive qualities are qualities only possible when Krishna undergoes declension into the myriad forms of this diverse Universe. Unattractive qualities are constructs of egos. In fact Krishna is total Oneness. There are so many Krishnas and I love them all. He is the ultimate teacher, I love him.
Beautiful words, true words. Thanks:sunny: Jaya Sri Krishna! Love is the great thing. If you have the power to love Him, you are blessed indeed.
