Hi, I would like to engage in a discussion about marijuana and how/why it "ruined my life and my brothers life and my best friend's life". We took it and were never the same. I went insane; my brother committed suicide, and my best friend went insane(both of us are on SSI). So I would like to discuss this- after 32 years of not discussing it- with some "hipsters"(no offense). Can you please direct me to the right forum to pursue this discussion? Thank you
i seriously doubt MJ is responsible for all that woe... ofcourse, there are some of us who shouldn't partake of alterative substances because of a greater tendancy to lose the plot (in some cases that is the desited effect)... there are plenty of people who go through the same and worse, who don't partake of alterative substances... i think you are looking in the right place for debate.... i'd be happy to debate it with you... just join and start a thread about it... welcome to here
This area is where you introduce yourself, it's really just a place to say hello. There are better areas to address this. But ... since you brought it up ... that's basically bullshit. Are you aware of how marijuana affects your brain and body? Judging by your outrageous statement, intended most likely to cause a stir, you don't. It causes the body to release GABA (a calming neurotransmitter) and attaches to cannabanoid receptors in your brain. Mainly it will make you calm and hungry. Now the SSRI's you are on are more likely to cause suicidal thinking and serious problems than almost anything else you could take. They affect serotonin receptors in your brain (not a good idea). But, and here's the really neat part, doctors aren't really, entirely sure everything SSRI's do or how they do it. Google SSRI addiction and withdrawal and you will see just how much damage these "medicines" cause. Just because a doctor prescribes it doesn't mean it's good for you ... quite often just the opposite. If you are truly here to discuss a problem and you aren't yanking our chain, then find the right area of the forum and keep an open mind. Good luck.
Thank's for the welcome. I was watching a movie about a bunch of people trying to add some feet to a hill in England because they wanted it classified as a mountain, and at the end of the movie, as the camera/helicopter moved away from the hill and towns-people on it, the screen distorted and I heard a voice that said in a ghostly tone: "I Am... ahhhhhhhhhh". I took its tone as a serious challenge to J-hova(self-descriptively named in Exodus ch.3 and 6- "I will be,etc."). Anyway, the hill these people were trying to construct could have been Silbury. Anyone heard of the movie? I don't know the name of it. It might have been in Wales. An English film. At least 10 years old. On the calming effects of Marijuana, this may have been true for the first 3 months I was on it(when I was 15 in 1978). After that I became paranoid every time I smoked it. Opposite of GABA for sure; and too nervous to have any hunger. I smoked it once a year for a while after that just to check in. Had some awesome thoughts like while I was listening to Lennon's last album(Double Fantasy) and during the song "I'm losing You" I thought it was saying "stufff the weeeeeeed in your mouth", but I later found out it said "stop the bleeeeeeeding now". I almost did too(with a plastic baggie of course) as I thought the police were coming to get me because I heard a helicopter near. It can't just be GABA. I'd like to know the bio/pharma-chemistry of what was happenning before MJ turned on me and after. I haven't smoked it about 10 years. I'm 48 now. Anyway, after it turned on me, I spiralled downhill. I am on SSRI's. I took Prozac when it first came out(in 88) and am now on Paxil.
I'm not a medical professioal or anywhere close to it, but it seems to me some serious lab tests,DNA tests and/or brain scans may be in order to determine why those in YOUR particular family react this way to what is a fairly benign substance for most users.. I'm sure there will be some folks here that will have some kind of decent answers for you.Hopefully. Welcome aboard, anyway.
Way back I dated a Chick who would go into these sort of Psychotic breaks whenever She would smoke weed. It wasn't the weed however which really caused anything so much as it highlighted an already underlying condition which would surface eventually anyway weed or not, ran in her family sort of, all her Predecessors were "a bit off" or on Prozac. So I'll say this, I don't think people should trash the OP for his perspective on the situation so much as to try and help him to find the real basis for his "condition".
I think Fritz is right, OP your problem sounds like either your weed was tainted with something or there was a underlying problem. Weed by itself will cause none of what you claim happened to you, your brother, or your friend.
I notice that people drive in packs on the freeway(in LA there's alot of them). You can see this clearly after 11 pm. Perhaps after the MJ went bad for me, I just lagged(lagoff in LA) off, becoming one of the stragglers that the pack-people leave behind. Anyone else notice how people drive in packs? This says so much to me about life. Someone should do a thesis on this phenomenon(vehicle distribution on freeways). I got together with my "best friend"(who also said MJ "ruined" his life) about 3 years ago and I saw that he drives very slowly too, the cars passing us like they were on silver and gold tracks and we were on grass I knew right away he was one of my kind. Perhaps we stragglers are just that 10 percent who are biologically programmed to straggle and have MJ "ruin" our lives while the rest- including old-stoners/hipsters - wave to your closely congregated pack-mates. By the way, I put MJ "ruined my life" always in quotes because perhaps it didn't ruin our lives, it just put us more quickly where we belong(way behind the pack) instead of more slowly finding out that we weren't made to run with the pack. After all, the world needs us too. How? Maybe to do a Vehicle Distribution Study on Freeways.
The problem with this is, not everyone should smoke pot. Pot is a relatively benigne drug with little to no side effects...that is however, if there isn't already something wrong. That said, pot did not cause the problem, it just helped to surface it. I'm sorry about what happened to you, and i'm very sorry for your loss.
I drive and I tell my kids to drive in between clumps of cars. It's just safer that way because 3000 pound vehicles driving 10-20 feet from each other at 70 miles per hour is bad business. A flat,a miscalculation,a second or two inattentivness----BANG!!! you got yourself a situation.
