I wasn't flamed for a long time after I joined, but I was a quiet little flower girl that stuck to the really hippie parts of the site (and once in a while got a bee in my bonnet and posted something opinionated and inflammatory in the Protest forum ). It wasn't until recently I got caught up in some RT nonsense and had to deal with some nastiness. I had hung out there for a little bit, but then it just wasn't fun anymore, and I felt a little displaced, but like everyone else kept saying, there were a lot of other forums... but nothing could replace RT. Eventually, I came back, but I've made a point not to make it the habit it once was. It's a fun little hang-out, but sometimes going elsewhere (or even *gasp* shutting the computer off and walking outside! ) is good. psychedelicg1rl, I like your mom's philosophy.
I was called an ignorant buffoon once. I love that word-buffoon. Sometimes a buffoon--sometimes a jack-ass and sometimes a serious person am I. It's all good. Some folks I've seen for years and some are pretty new,but it has always been entertaining, occasionally enlightening and best of all --really funny at times. I flamed the shit out of the dog-fuckers and the kittens-to be- fed to the snake ass holes. So be it.I'm going off to California to work so I won't be here for a while, but I always seem to come back. There are some I highly regard in here and that's the way it is. Adios, modeckers.
Well I hope I'm not gonna step on my own dick here. I do love Hipforums and Skip has done a marvelous job here. Hats off to him :cheers2: I do notice though that in probably the hottest topic area, philosophy and religion, his personal beliefs come screaming out. That is evidenced by the little tag lines under each forum heading; Buddhism Learn how to end suffering and achieve enlightenment. Rather self explanatory Christianity Discuss Christianity and the impact it has had upon the world in the last 2,000 years. The use of the word "impact" carries with it a negative connotation. A more neutral word would be "influence". Scientology Discuss Scientology, its beliefs, its activities, its crimes. Again, rather self explanatory. Islam A fast growing religion, but what does it really seek? Hinting at a hidden agenda by the followers. But even more interesting is this warning in the NEW RULES sticky of the Christianity section NO BIBLE QUOTES! Sorry but we don't allow spam on this site. Quoting over and over from some ancient text, is SPAM! You want to advertise a book, take out a banner ad! Yet when you go into the Buddhist section there are sticky's with entire segments of Buddhist writings there rather blatantly copied and pasted. All I am saying is that even when done with the best intentions and ideals of a free and neutral speech forum, personal ideologies still show through. Thats just life. I'm personally not concerned, just making an observation. Plus it is Skips site and he has every right to do with it as he sees fit.
I agree with PB here even though PB was one of the first to try and knock me around when I came on. However recognizing it is no threat and I enjoy being here.
then PB :boxing_smiley: thedope now PB :cheers2: thedope Seriously though I only really call people on inconsistantcy because it alludes to thier honesty and reliability. I think now we have a much better understanding of each others points of view, and surprisingly they are often the same.
Free speech is not a right to flame, degrade or incite reactions against someone you do not agree with. It is a responsibility to accept that the person who you disagree with the most has just as much right to say what they wish. Free speech is protecting the right of one person. If you do not respect the right of the one to voice what they believe, then you have no right to expect that your freedom to do the same should be respected. If you do not agree with something posted, walk away. If it borders on illegal, take the proper initiative to have it stopped. A free for all is not free speech, it is the exact opposite.
Says you! Your right of course. Don't recall who said it, but one of my favorite quotes is "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."
Fitting quote. The person who yells the loudest is not always right and usually a bully. Then the rest of the playground kids have to jump in and join the gang bang. Got to love posting!
do ya really think so? i think it got a lot busier since chat threads and wotnot really opened this community up...
