well the guy DID back into the cop car...

and "since he (the cop) started work there on Sept. 10, 2001, he has been orally reprimanded, counseled or cited at least eight times. In one incident, Nichols responded to a crash and struck the rear corner of the crashed vehicle. In another, he failed to put his car in reverse while making a traffic stop and struck that violator's vehicle."

Considering the date that the cop started he might have some deep seated issues with his job in light what his second day on the job (9/11/01) was like.

That's a highly misleading thread title.

Cop violates his agency's deadly force policy, and is suspended without pay. Sounds like the system worked for once.

Last person on earth to defend a cop, but the OP did say someone was killed, not someone could have been killed. It was fortunate that he missed, should be fired, if there was real justice.

I had noted that but let it pass as human error. My post was a bit tongue in cheek- pretending to express relief that a cop would repeatedly discharge his weapon wildly in a public place. There are noise ordinances though- he should have used his mouth as a silencer.

Which is actually much more disturbing to me. Where did those bullets go? They don't just stop and drop if you miss the intended target.
Gun control means hitting what you aim at.

There is a public assumption of competency in regards to any type of law enforcement that requires the carrying of a firearm. For him to be that incompetent in the use of a weapon is as frightening as the fact that he tried to use deadly force to stop a petty misdemeanor. Police are not trained to shoot to wound, they are trained to shoot to kill and only if no other option presents itself to prevent grave injury to another or themselves.
Sounds to me as if somebody really dropped the ball when evaluating this guy when he first was at the academy.
I hope for the sake of innocent bystanders this moron gets his badge taken away and is forever banned from law enforcement.

Of course, I can tell a joke when I see one. :p
It just got me thinking of what a complete incompetent fool this guy is.
I could have dropped that guy and I haven't fired a handgun in far to long..

I wish I still had all my guns:(

His foolish incompetence is only eclipsed by that of the system which enabled him to wear a badge and carry a loaded firearm to "protect" us.
