Had a white fro/jew fro sort of thing going on before hand, very unmanageable... just been twisting every day for the past 3 weeks, no wax or backcombing, how's it looking so far? I know it has a lot of frizz
Its been tough, trying to work in all the loose hairs and maintain the younger dreads in the back, does anyone have any suggestions or tips from their personal experience>?
you shouldn't be twisting them. at this point, too much manipulation with your hands may be counteractive to knotting. besides, it's pointless. they are only three weeks old, so they are all "younger dreads". if you can't stand the loose hairs, use a crochet hook. i wouldn't recommend this though. it changes the texture of the natural process. maybe a little pure aloe gel to control frizz during the day. the tips may become blunt on their own, or they never will, or you can try to force them to with the hook. again, i wouldn't recommend this. please see the thread called " read this before posting..." it contains a FAQ
thanks for the advice, i've already read the sticky... and i have to keep twisting some of the ones in the back otherwise some of them come undone since i started them using the twisting method, as discribred in the faq it takes a bit of maintenance in the beginning, i presummed that meant more twisting no?
twisting and ripping you mean? if so, don't keep twisting. if you started with twisting, and if you have the right hair type for this method, you could probably twist them once a week and be fine. the FAQ also says that they will come loose and there's not much you can do about it
Just literally do nothing man. I was paranoid as fuck my first month because I wanted them to be perfect. Then I just basically forgot about them and they're starting to look sick. Just make sure you tear the congo's because you'll get huge dreads joining if you dont. I have a 3 joining together at two different places and 2 that are joining together. So I'm gonna have 4 huge sick dreads and then the rest are gonna be slightly big but not huge. So sick, your gonna be happy in a year man.
thanks for the needed reasurrance. im not really self-conscious bout them, infact i like all the messy fuzz as it helps highlight which girls are too uptight to keep talking too and its a real relief knowing i dont have to keep working on them everyday... i know the key to locks is time and nothingness however for some reason i thought the twisting method required you to keep twisting the first few weeks, guess ill just let the ebb and flow of time shape them !
apologies madaam im just quite sure the difference but im pretty sure i just twisted. i would kind mess up the ends so they were all criss crossed and then pull so it twisted the hair down to the root and then kept doing the same process until it got to the ends of my hair.
