Hey, I just got back from travelling in Washington DC. I walk a lot and do wear sport shoes. But, while doing tourist pics I snapped this candid of a young guy soaking his feet in a fountain in the Sculpture Garden on the National Mall. Apparently ppl take the opportunity to get out of their shoes now and then, even in a city.
DC is a great barefoot placee. Not sure why but it is. Especially Georgetown and Old Town Alex with those nice warm brick sidewalks.
When I went I spent a lot of time barefoot around "The Mall" because my flips are starting to hurt my feet. The grass there though is incredible, softest grass Ive ever put my feet on
My last trip to DC was about 5 years ago for a White House tour and I wore my flip-flops for that. After the tour we walked around looking at the sights and my flops came off. I saw several others doing the same, especially around the mall. Agreed, the grass is very comfortable.
I thought I was going to be able to handle the hard leather and tire that make up my flips... I was sadly mistaken Was the White House cool? I didnt get to go on that
The White House was fascinating. We toured the west wing which includes the oval office and the cabinet room. Lots of antiques and original paintings such as the one where Washington is crossing the Delaware. Its like a museum, but also like an old house with layers of paint on the trim work. After the tour, I took off my filpflops and walked barefoot around the mall and the Capitol steps. I got a little teasing from my friends about my bare feet but they know me, it was no big deal.
Ive gotta check out the White House, sounds cool. Did you get to go in the art gallery there in the mall? I was with my family, none of them said anything when I took mine off. My little brother soon joined me haha
