I am new to hiking and am scouring the internet for information on how I can go out and hike then camp on the PCT Donner sumit to 49. I'm not sure about all the bullshit regulation and if I can or can't have a fire because there is no real information on it. Yes there is a website but it's not really too informative. I want to go out for a day or two at first then start with 5 day to week trips even longer and furth up North. I have a couple months away from work and really need to do this or I never will. I have most of the gear I need. Sleeping bag, odyssey 65 backpack fire starter(I don't even know if they will harass me for having a small contained capfire or where I can camp) and several other items. I was so excited to finally do this that I'm even going at it alone because I really don't know anyone who wants to do this. I'm becoming really discouraged to the point I might just say F***k it and just see what happens. Can ANYONE help me of where I can find a website where I don't have to pay just to see where to hike 1 trail? Thank you so much this is really what I need in my life right now so thank you for any help you may offer!
Thank you, but this is the site where I can't seem to find detailed info on the certain area. Have you hiked it before. Then there is some bullshit I read where people were worried about being forced to carry bear repellant. By law! I'm just frustrated man!
My dad and brother did a couple summers ago. My dad always finds guide books im not really sure. Id check out the library seems to work for him. I dont know if bear mace is required by law (I am pretty sure my dad never had any) though it may be a good idea

absolutely. Im super jealous. I wanted to go with my dad and bro, but I had some knee trouble and had to back out. the pictures are incredible though, you really gotta figure it out and go!
You can definitely make fires on the PCT. All the videos I've seen about people hiking it showed them making fires to dry their clothes and cook food so I don't see why it would be a problem. It's not like there are cops surrounding the trail so you could just walk in there without ever filling out paperwork.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AXhlHoNxo8"]YouTube - Pacific Crest Trail Documentary (PART 1) "Walking the West" That's a documentary about two guys that quit their jobs to hike the entire PCT. There's a bunch of videos on youtube if you just search PCT hiking or something like that.
http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/tahoe/ -Maybe this helps some. I'm familiar with this area, you really don't need to worry about fire restrictions as you will be very remote. There are brown bears out there but you don't need to worry unless you accidentally sneak up on one. Bring a good topo map, compass and altimeter, and maybe a fishing pole below is a pic just north of 49, west slope of the 'beauttes on the pct.
http://www.totalescape.com/active/campstuff/NF/angeles.html Hi, from my understanding you can no longer free cmap and make fires in the los angeles national forest EXCEPT along the PCT. I still camp sometimes in those areas but I am skiiled at primitive living and stealth. Go and have fun. You will have no problems there. You just might some fantastic people. :2thumbsup:
