I first read this as "cut our hands off haha.

I think it comes down to the legality of it, not neccessarily religious recognition. Spouses get to decide whether to pull the plug when someone is in a coma, for example. In a homosexual relationship that is not recognized by the state, that right goes to the family. Also in situations like that, immediate family are often the only ones allowed in the hospital room. I imagine it feels like quite an injustice to spend 30 years with someone in a life partner scenario then not be able to tell them goodbye in the hospital.

Also, I guess homosexuals want the same tax breaks as heterosexual couples..thats not the most romantic reason for marriage. I'll probably just cut my hand off too.

yes its the legal rights issue that is important to me, i can be banned from my partners hospital room because i am not related to him even after 20 years of life together, no superannuation or pension rights, i have no legal rights. i love him. I want our rights recognised.

This is the stupidest question ever and if you were so interested in this subject you would probably already know. There are legal issues involved ffs. I don't ever want to get married, really. I think it's a load of crap along with religion and god.
