I'm looking for information on Syd Barrett's drug use. Particularily LSD. I have to right a paper describing wether it had negative or positive effects on him and or his work.

If any of ya'll got any links or ideas thatd be awesome!

    Thanks

I think I've seen a video of him on youtube with mushrooms on his eyes but I have yet to read much text where it explicity Talks about his LSD use. I think anybody with a reasonable balanced viewpoint would have to conclude drugs had a negative effect on him. He was only in Pink Floyd for two years, contributed considerably less on the second album and needed David gilmour to come in because he was just sitting there catatonic during live performances.

I don't care for his solo stuff all that much but even if you like it I think many would agree its not as quality as what he did with Pink Floyd. Sorry no links :(

Other members of Floyd have always said that he was a torubled person, and that he had issues anyway. Of course doing as much drugs as he did probably did not help that. That is a well known fact, if you have troubles and then drop some acid, you could be that one in a thousand who has some sort of long lasting issue. But I think when you compare that to the number of people LSD will help, it is well worth it. As far as his work, he and Roger Waters knew each other for many years from childhood, so they listened to the same music and have the same backround, but Syd taught Roger allot, and I think overall he is the roots of the Pyscedelic rock sound that Floyd was. And he may not have made the same music had he not taken drugs, but pretty much every musician back then was taking drugs of any kind. I am reminded of what Tommy Chong said "I took acid when it was called here try this".

His own death from complications arising from type-II diabetes took place in July of 2006 at the age of 60... it was sugar that killed him not drugs.. Wait., Is sugar a drug?

Who knows, only Syd knows how taking acid affected his work. A lot of Floyd songs were conceived in basic form by Syd in 65-66 before he really started doing acid, some afterwards, so who knows.
