The demon drink

Discussion in 'U.K.' started by Deleted member 157313, Sep 25, 2010.

  1. Why do people say that they need a drink to......make them feel better, drown their sorrows or whatever, like it was some fucking cure-all when all it does is make them feel like shit and they end up ask themselves why? why? why? with the inevitable response of "never again" (apart from the lucky few of course).

I can promise you one thing: If alcohol is not the source of sea stories, at least it makes them tolerable!

probably to find an excuse to have a drink, after all it's a mind altering drug, and a lot of people like the feeling of it, e.g. the "beer buzz".

these people are probably deluding themselves that they're not alcohol dependent. either that or they've bought into the cultural myths around alcohol.

I'm going to side with Duck on this one.

It's completely socially acceptable to drink. It's easy to obtain and doesn't cost much.

Even if you grow up in a household that doesn't drink, it is everywhere: magazines, papers, adverts, even on the news. The sensationalism of drinking, ends up promoting more drinking.

Just like everything, some people are able to drink for fun and be responsible. Others drink too much and can't control themselves. If I've had a stressful day, I might choose to have a bit of a drink; but I haven't drank to get drunk in years. Oddly enough, when I drink more than a couple of drinks now, I just feel a bit sickly. So it's not something I'd choose to do.

paralytic... incapacitated... addiction and denial i suppose... i like a little drink now and then, i even crave an occassional one... "phwoar... i really fancy an ice-cold beer" etc... but i don't NEED a drink... ever! if it got to that stage i would book into rehab immediately... it is available and considered socially acceptable... oft time drunks are paralytic in so many ways... :(

I know where you're coming from...and I always think, I'm not gonna drink much this time. However, I am at a total lack of control when the party gets heated up. I stand no chance of being sensible, I have to show off and be loud...I can't help it when I'm around people I trust...I'm that guy that wakes up at least twice a month..thinking..what happened, why did I blow all my cash...and the obligatory..I'm never getting drunk again. Weak!

if you happy with that, then all is well and good, but if the downside outweighs the good, then perhaps try showing off loudly, sober? once or twice a month doesn't sound like a problem though, tbh... if it's the finances you worried about, make your own alcohol...
