Some of you may recall that this site was visited by Anonymous, a shadowy, loosely connected group who take actions against perceived threats to freedom. When they came here, along with channers, they were involved with the protests against Scientology and we let them use our forums while they setup a new server.

Well now they have a new target, the Anti-Piracy, copyright fanatic organizations who are cracking down on websites that allow the copying of copyrighted materials.

They have organized attacks on these organization including the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) and the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

Remember that these organization have not only gone after the big copyright pirates, but also individuals who make copies or allow copies to be made of copyrighted music or movies or software. You know fining housewives hundreds of thousand of dollars cause their files were exposed on peer-to-peer networks for others to copy.

I have mixed feelings about this cause I own copyrights. These sites are copyrighted too. We've considered taking legal action a few times, but it never really was necessary to do that.

So I can understand why Anonymous is so angry. These organizations have gone way beyond the usual witch hunt. And the last straw for Anonymous was the attack by a network of computers in India against a number of pirate sites.

It makes me wonder if some Anonymous activists aren't running some pirate sites or whether they just sympathize with them. Might be they use such sites to communicate. Who knows? They love to keep us guessing.

I've wondered what other organizations Anonymous might target next.

A new question I have is "What makes Anonymous so Angry?"

Glad to see Anonymous shaking things up again. :cheers2:

Not only did they target these folks - they also made life hell for the woman in the UK who dumped a cat in a trashbin as she passed by, prompting this article

    ^ shouldn't've dumped a cat in a garbage bin.

They also attacked a guy that threatened to blackmail one of their female members because she wouldn't bang him. They absolutely ruined his life. It was funny.

Then Fox News tried to report on it, taking his side, not even talking about what he did; and then they crashed Fox News' servers, and trolled the shit out of them until Fox News gave up.

Anonymous is the new angry mob. I like them.

I wish they'd add WMA to the list (or whoever that damn company is) that keeps blocking my country from seeing tons of youtube videos due to music copyrights

This would jeopardize the anonymity I imagine...

From my observation of/experience with them here has me thinking they may detract from their cause as much as contribute by making themselves heard in the manner they've chosen. The saying, "no good deed ever goes unpunished" lingers as an effective synopsis of hipforums availing space while they sorted out their server issues. Sometimes extreme tactics induce sympathy for the very party being protested.

    Cyber Superheroes* =D

Well, the thing is, they aren't an organization but a gathering.

Some of them are just 4chan kids trying to be cool, others ones are the modern day |337. Some of them are seedy 40 year olds that like kiddie porn (see: anonib), some of them are disenfranchised angry youth.

They do awesome things, like protest Scientology; and they do slightly more debatable things like haunt cat killers; and they do seedy things like capture and distribute naughty webcamming.

But in these modern days, at least they do something.

And now when it's just FINE for one gov't to attack another gov't's computers (including the US being one of the main attackers), it's nice to know that there are INDEPENDENT people who are willing to also attack those who abuse others.

Yes perhaps cyberheroes is a good name for those who do it.

What I'd LOVE to see is a CYBER-ROBIN HOOD who hacks into computers to take from the rich corporations and individuals and give to the poor.

Then just transfer those balances to those with the least amount in their accounts...

I predict that one day this will happen. The banking system is about to collapse anyway since they can't sell any of those foreclosed houses anymore due to their conspiracy to defraud by not verifying ownership.

So the banks now have NO INCOME on foreclosed houses and can't sell them either! This means that people can STOP PAYING THEIR MORTGAGES and not fear losing their home cause the BANKS CAN'T PROVE they own the houses anymore!

And the massive lawsuits by those who lost their homes due to shady paperwork will sue these banks for Billions. Forget about bailing out those scum. They need to fail!

People get ready cause this is going to be the thing that spells the end of American capitalism...

    DIE THIEVING BANKS, DIE!

many things can be said about this entity they call anonymous. when anonymous does good they do GREAT. when anonymous does terrible................you get the idea. it's a few string pullers pulling the strings of countless puppets, is what they are. i don;t think they are as much of humanitarians as they are pranksters and bored. doing things for the lulz, seems like a lot of them are just sheep looking for causes to follow. when they post someone's phone number and address online, they don;t even care what the reason may be why it's online or if what that person has been accused of is true or not. Anonymous is very prone to corruption, and lots of infighting. the chans go after each other all the time.

do i respect anonymous? of course, i respect any group or entity that can ruin your life so easily and barely even try. or at the least make you look worse than you actually are. but for a group of people who complain about pedophiles so often, it's interesting that many of them are 20 year olds with 15 year old boyfriends and girlfriends. even though i feel going after baby rapers and animal abusers to be good things. anonymous needs to purge from itself the very elements it makes a stand against, before they go on acting like some sort of moral pillar for the rest of us.
