Rutgers student Tyler Clementi committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge. He was taped by his roommate, having sex with another guy in their dorm room. The video was then released onto the web. Why, why would anyone to that to another human being? How cruel. These were not stupid people - Rutgers no less. What happened to decency and privacy and compassion?
It is a tragedy that the boy felt so humiliated that he found no other recourse to save face than to kill himself. It is time we have an upsurge in indignation for the way gay ppl are treated in our nation. We are singled out as second class citizens, sinners, perverts and every other denigration the "righteous good" ppl can pile on us. Why can't gay ppl serve openly and proud in our armed forces? Why can't I donate my disease-free blood without lying to get around the senseless discrimination? Why can't gay ppl in Florida adopt children? Why can't gay ppl get married and receive all the legal/financial benefits of that contract? Why can't a young man or woman proudly say "This is who I love," to any and all in the world?
