Only the strong and smart will survive. Think and live as if you had no body's help.

Im just glad the word FEMA wasn't in the quote. Then id really be scared.

I think the quote is reflective of an attitude held by much of the privileged class that the working class and poor are a herd to be managed.... like livestock. I strongly suspect this is shared by those in our government as well.

Where's a medium sized asteroid when you need one?

A significant natural disaster is my choice for population control. That way nobody gets to pick and choose who survives and who doesn't.
Wipe the slate clean and start over.

I'm all for more preemptive forms of population control. What is already here will be sorted out by what will be.

What is Bill Gates saying? Does his actions reflect what he is saying?

I think it's some peoples prejudices about vaccines that makes them lose their marbles...

I think that people need to be aware and question. They need to research and then make decisions based upon what they find that is factual with regards to vaccinations rather than what they assume to be said. They may just like to consider what it was like before some of the most common vaccines were available.

There are some people who should not have vaccinations as they are within certain risk groups or have medical reasons not to. Fine and that is a decision that is made and usually recommended by the very people who are supposedly pushing the dreaded vaccines.

The largest concern among many immunologists is that by being not vaccinated those people could be the ones who cause an occurrence of diseases that have for the most part been eradicated. Most seem to agree that the problem with that is that the mutated strains would then be resistant to current treatments. Welcome a platform for a pandemic to possibly be far more devastating.

The paranoia factor is self destructive. A balance is fact not fear.

Maybe we need a little insight into the logic Gates is employing here. First off he is primarily referring to undeveloped nations where the population growths are the greatest.
In a lot of these countries they are still very agriculturally based, have higher infant mortality rates, and live via a simple subsistence diet.
In such cultures there has always been a benefit to having a large family, more births= more surviving to an age to be able to work. More hands working=more resources gathered and greater success with farming. It also provided a greater means of security for the parents if they had children to care for them in their old age. The mentality Gates is attempting to address was the predominate one up until about 150 years ago. With technological advances, lower infant mortality and people living healthier and longer lives with more productive years means they do not have to rely on a lot of children to assure enough food and security in old age.
His rational is that with vaccines and better health care, infant mortality rates will drop and the incentives to have larger families will be decreased and net an eventual decrease in overall population growth in these countries.
On paper is is very logical and sound.
In reality I'm not so sure it will actually work out as he envisions. A whole lot of other things need to happen to bring such countries up to a technological standard where such population changes would begin to be beneficial, at least from the perspective of those living in those areas. He really needed to more fully explain that aspect of the population question, but then again, considering the immediate audience he was addressing, maybe a full explanation was not needed.

It doesn't really matter anyway, the world is going to be taken over by aliens and life as we know it will come to an end on Dec. 21 2012.:p

I don't see a lot of the people that advocate reducing the worlds population, lining up to leave.

I do as well-- I also support our right to sound off on the opinion. If that makes me a Nazi then I severely misunderstand what it means to be a Nazi.
