Saturday I went to my local California beach. It was very warm but not summer-hot, when you have to wear flip-flops just to survive walking across the hot sand on an 80-degree day. I went barefoot all the way from home to the beach and back. Regarding a previous post, I would LOVE to have the nerve to go into my local Macy's barefoot.

    Kia Ora Ni Hao!

I'm still able to deliver my route every morning barefoot. The guy at one of the gas stations told me he makes bets with people about whether or not I'll be barefoot. He said he always wins haha!

    Cheers!

I find it facinating when i read these postings on barefooting, and appreciate my culture. In South Africa,we have a barefoot culture.70% of our primary schools post 'apartheid' are barefoot schools,of wich 40% are all year round barefòot schools. In the 'apartheids era,96% schools were barfòot schools. We were not allowed to wear shoes in the country town i grew up,and being in a boarding school, the barefoot rule was rigidly enforced.SHOES WERE ONLY FOR CHURCH,and after church, outside,we had to remove it,ane remained bareèt all week long. Now days, kids attend church barefoot, teens, and adults alike.I never wear shoes anywhere, except to work.EVERYWHERE is my barefoot domain, even going to church, and my sunday school class, grade 7,attend church and sunday school blissfuly barefoot.

I just got done with my route, and I stepped on a thorned vine that had fallen on the ground. I got 3 or 4 pricks, but since I have been barefoot for so long, it didn't bleed at all. Just kind of stung.

    Cheers!

I am in the wrong country. Being pretty much permanently barefoot, even in church, would be excellent. (Well this Spring through Fall I had the opportunity to do that with maybe 1% use of flip flops if I couldn't get into a place. I started in March and am still barefoot always)

By the way swimmer on the topic of Macys. Try this if you don't want to walk in barefoot. Shop for jeans and go try them on. If you are not wearing socks (important point) when you put the pants on you'll be barefoot. Now, leaving the new pants on walk out of the fitting room barefoot to look for maybe another pair in that size. Take your time looking at shirts, sweaters, etc. Voila, you are now shopping barefoot.

Hillman, thanks! That's exactly what I'm going to do. After all, you gotta start somewhere, right?

I went for a walk round the block just to try and toughen my feet up a bit, they're getting there albeit slowly.

Usual stroll into Bulwell - got a polite enquiry from one of the stores I regularly visit from one of the cashiers who was most intrigued (usual questions about glass answered with 'my feet are leather', then reassured her it was great fun and like having a free foot massage every day - she revealed she'd spent time in Africa and never wore shoes whilst there). Also walking along Nottingham Canal on Tuesday got stopped by a lovely couple asking me where my shoes were, replied at home and that I chose not to wear any, to which the girl in the couple replied 'that is so cool' ! Also on Monday got an enquiry from a teenager who asked whether my feet were sore - replied absolutely not !

It's Saturday morning and I just got back from running errands. As I went into a grocery store, a woman was coming out. She saw my bare feet and I heard her say to her companion, "There's a man after my own heart!!" Just another person who wishes they had the nerve to kick off their shoes in public!

  14. Strolling barefoot through an arboretum, then lunch. Bare feet on a nice autumn afternoon...Sure beats workin'!

Last week's Sunday: going barefoot via public transport to receive a tantric massage.
Monday to Friday: walking barefoot to and from work, including several visits to the mall.
Today: extended barefoot walk and picnic in the park (feeling playful, too, with all my toe nails painted).
Detailed report here: My barefoot diary.

    Wiggling bare toes,

The other day I went into NYC to try to meet some friends, have lunch, etc. I took along flip flops in case I couldn't get into places. But after 2 bars and a bit af a walk between them I felt what I thought was the beginning of a blister (not being used to any footwear lately). So off came the flips. I ended up doing (amongst other stuff) one subway passageway, one subway station and subway car ride, two train stations and two trains. Talk about dirty soles! And that left me with the question why did I bother in the first place. I won't the next time.

Yeah, I often wear flip-flops when I go for a long walk on concrete. If my soles aren't toughened, I'll develop some really nasty blisters on my soles. The same as you, I'll end up taking them off, but sometimes the damage is already done. A nasty blister can take awhile to go away. Funny, but the thought is the flip-flops will protect your soles, but in fact the opposite happens - especially if the flip-flops don't fit very snugly so the ball of your foot slips a bit with each step. Once my soles have toughened, the flip-flops aren't a problem, but why bother?

Well that was what surprised me. I've been basically perpetually barefoot (except for the occasional bar or eatery) for over 200 days so non-toughened soles should not have been a problem. As it was the bothered parts were a big toe and heel. On the same foot no less. And yeah, I agree, why did I bother? Next time I go into the city I won't bother. It wasn't like I got any looks or anything and it was more enjoyable walking city places barefoot anyhow.

Unfortunately at this time of year my barefoot adventures are limited to barbecuing. Although today I'll be able to add raking leaves to that category.:) Other than those two examples, that's about as good as it gets.
