If you go on youtube and type in "how to meditate" theres this great set of videos about it and it really helped me understand it and how to do it.
Watch yourself. Your thoughts. Your actions. Question why you do things in the manner that you do. Instinct? Reaction? Programmed behaviour? Be conscious of your actions as you do them. Live in the present moment. That's all you need for now. x
this makes perfect sense to me now , at first i was tryin to hard to understand , you just have to adopt a third person perspective
It just depends upon your orientation and mental - physical nature. Some people can't sit still, others fall asleep, some have bad knees, some can hold lotus posture for hours. How can all people do the same meditation? Or hope to derive the same benefits? Plus, people come from different religious background, and they will run up against that at some point in their self discovery. For some people they already are very self conscious and conflicted, so they will not benefit from watching their thoughts, etc, as that leads to thought watching meditation third party experience of life. All this giving of meditations to strangers is not necessarily correct or right, nor are the techniques correct or right. The student if they truely care about meditation should search and find something that resounds with them. That's the path of the seeker, seeking, and trying, and finding.
A good way to meditate is by having some method to use while in meditation. That way you're not just trying to sit there with an empty mind. The mind will always be there, you just need to get to a place where you become the watcher and controller of the mind. Anyway, you could do breathing exercises and chakra meditations where you focus on each chakra and the energy and colors there. If something comes to mind just make note of it and move on. Try not to be attached or upset about the thoughts. Let them pass and then get back to focusing on breathing and your chakras. This seems like a good introductory website: chakra meditations. The idea is that you want to change your state of perception. It just takes practice and patience!
I wouldn't rely on web sites. There is nothing like the presence of a true teacher. There are plenty of good ones around. Explore and find the right one for you. And in the meantime, watch your mind. Watch your mind. Watch your mind.

Make time to meditate. Set aside enough time in your daily routine for meditating. The effects of meditation are most noticeable when you do it regularly and consistently rather than sporadically. Find or create a quiet, relaxing environment. It's especially important, when you're starting out, to avoid any obstacles to attention. Turn off any TV sets, phone(s) or other noisy appliances. If you play music, make sure it's calm, repetitive and gentle, so as not to break your concentration. Meditating outside can be conducive, as long as you don't sit near a busy roadway or another source of loud noise. Sit on level ground. Sit on a cushion if the ground is uncomfortable. You don't have to twist your limbs into the lotus position or adopt any unusual postures. The important thing is to keep your back straight, as this will help with breathing later on. if you want to learn on how to meditate go to this site ---> http://meditationforbeginners.org
For a beginner, I think clearing your mind from distractions and letting meditation come to you can be a difficult thing (I know it was for me). I found using headphones while playing binaural beats really helped me to block out distractions. I found them to be such a benefit that I started a blog it (the link above). Maybe there is some information there that might help you. Good luck!
The Art of Ascension taught by the Ishaya's is a totally simple mechanical process that works with the mind's habit of thinking. There are a series of techniques that effortlessly work to clear the mind AND the nervous system of past impressions. It is really easy to do...I found right after I learned I would easily meditate for an hour or more because it was so pleasing to my mind. go to: www.theishayafoundation.org for information about the practice. or to: http://devabookstore.org/books-msi.html for free e books on the practice
beyond meditation, having a good posture is believed to free blocks in energy currents that flow through your chakras. i used to slouch all the time, but within the past year with some yoga backbending and meditation i feel MUCH better with a straight back. i truly believe it helps to clear your mind and energy channels. posture is considered to be very important for yoga and meditation, it is among one of the first steps.
to clear your mind you must your mind of any judgement and expectation for yourself. realize that you are a single vertex of the infinite net of life, and in this way, you are one with everything. you are one with the ever present consciousness. allow the consciousness to fill your being with it's presence, and any messages or images it may have to offer. a key to clearing the mind is to silence your thoughts regarding the future or the past, desires or regrets... you must come to realize that there is a divine force that is guiding you along your path, and that divine force holds a root in yourself. you see that you are really only very small and life flows on within you and without you, in the words of georgie. no matter what, in the end, everything is in it's right place. whatever should be will be. this is how you pull into the present force where time is constant. i'll suggest a book to ya, chakras, yoga, and consciousness by werner bohm
