i can hardly wait to read the other replies you get, but all i will say is whatever technique you eventually choose, your life is your meditation, every breath is a meditation, and everything you are and do and think are the gifts you are giving as a thing of wonder...

    - alive! just imagine! wherever you go, there you are.

Sit indian style on your bed, body relaxed, back straight. Sit with your eyes closed and take deep breaths. After about 15 or 20 minutes your mind will start to clear. Have no expectations and just go with the flow of your mind. When I meditate sometimes I think about situations that happened that I didn't like how they turned out. I will look through the other people's perspective's to have a better understanding of why I said or did what I did. You can learn alot about yourself and the world around you in meditation.

The average human lives for about 37,000,000 minutes.....Your saying you can't spend 60 on something that could lead you on the road to happiness??

Explain to your parents what meditation is. All it is, is a time for you to reflect and ponder thoughts you wouldn't normally think about.........

As far as audio I don't like it. It is better to be in complete silence, NO distractions.

Its like learning to drive a car- The first time is the hardest, but the more you do it the easier it gets.

I actually prefer music, but I can do it without. Sometimes beginners need music to help get in the mood and it also gives you something to concentrate on. Some good Sitar music is really relaxing. I recommend Ben Leinbach the Spirit of Yoga. I use it all the time. I find focusing on the breath useful. Just feel it going in and out of the nostrils, feel your lungs expanding with every breath, feel your body getting lighter. Just focus on that. If a thought pops up in your head, just try your best to observe it and let it go on it's way.

i have tried meditation a for a while now, not daily like i should. but sometimes when i just feel like i have to drop a load, its a great releif. i still havnt found that balance of sitting with my back straight and meditating, i cannot find a comfortable position like that. but otherwise, just sitting back on the couch, with my legs crossed and JUST concentrating on my breathing, thinking about every breath i take in and let out, and i can eventually feel myself drift into a sort of out of body experience, and from there i can allow my thoughts to wonder and search through my mind. i deffinetly do suggest the practice though.

What I want to know is, what are your actual motivations to want to meditate? Anyone of you answer this please, this is not a trick question. Whoever wants too, tell me why you want to meditate. Namaste, Yogin Bhairava

I meditate because it is calming. It heightens my sense's and makes me feel better about myself, the world around me, and my existance. I don't really have "goals" in mind when i meditate, i just do it.

My answer would be simalar to somewhat of man on the hill's. I do it to look into a problem or a situation i am facing with out the distractions of my surroundings, it really helps to eliminate all other factors and when i meditate, i can deffinetly focus and find a solution, or atleast look at the problem from another perspective. If i am not meditating under a situation, then i have no motive, just to calm myself

i dont. but if i were to, start. id assume id do it for reasons of mystical discovery. Adventures into the deepest realms of midst and darkness that encompass the spiderweb of My.mind. I guess i have moments of meditation throughout each day, but i have never read the leanered mans handbook to the mind – so one could only assume I have still yet to get off the ground. But by golly, do I know this ground well.

I know I said this on another thread but there are these great videos I watched on youtube and they taught me a lot. Just type in "how to meditate" and they're like the first on the list. Its part of a set of 5 or 6 videos.

Make time to meditate. Set aside enough time in your daily routine for meditating. The effects of meditation are most noticeable when you do it regularly and consistently rather than sporadically.
Find or create a quiet, relaxing environment. It's especially important, when you're starting out, to avoid any obstacles to attention. Turn off any TV sets, phone(s) or other noisy appliances. If you play music, make sure it's calm, repetitive and gentle, so as not to break your concentration. Meditating outside can be conducive, as long as you don't sit near a busy roadway or another source of loud noise.
Sit on level ground. Sit on a cushion if the ground is uncomfortable. You don't have to twist your limbs into the lotus position or adopt any unusual postures. The important thing is to keep your back straight, as this will help with breathing later on.
