Recently I have been trying to Meditate myself into a complete meditory state if you will. I have tried to enter my soul and mind as much as possible but yet I am distracted by the outside world. What can I do to enter my 'soul' in meditation? Methods etc?
As with anything else, practice makes perfect. The problem is compounded by the fact you're only 17. You have a raging thirst for the world because there is so much of it that is brand new to you still. Your mind wants to feed, but it can be taught the proper time for doing so. Meditation is like learning the piano. Practice Practice Practice. As for the outside world, if its noisy where you are, get some of those little soft foam earplugs. They work well and they're cheap. x
As for methods, you meditate all the time, but you're unaware of doing so. Anytime your attention is focused on something, thats meditation. The main points are to keep your spine as straight as you can, but don't force it. A dark room helps. Focus your attention between your eyebrows, and slightly upward. It can help if you press that area with your finger to get used to where it is. This third eye area is the seat of your waking conciousness. If you are religious, you can imagine the image of Jesus there or whoever else you love and respect. Once you have centered yourself, you will find the mind likes to wander. This is normal. Just gently guide it back to the focus on the third eye. The longer you can keep it there, the better meditation will pay benefits to you. Some people will begin to see lights and other things. Pay them no mind. They will just divert your attention. The mind is not used to sitting still, and sometimes it will manufacture things just to break the boredom. Be firm with it. Recenter your attention and continue. This is where practice will refine your technique and your self discipline. It is often a lifelong process. Why not start today? x
If your new to meditation its important to get into the mood. I find it more difficult to meditate if I just suddenly sit down and start meditating., I like to have a warm shower, a cup of tea, do some leg and arm streches, do a little tai chi <this helps a lot. Then once im realxed sit down to some meditaion. As said before practice makes perfect, meditaion only gets easier as you keep doing it. Good luck.
DO NOTHING !!! Stop thinking EVERYTHING. just close your eyes. still your mind at the center of the body. This site may help you a lot. http://www.meditationthai.org/docs/en/meditation.html#Meditation_for_Beginners
Thanks alot people, thankyou for the advise. I live in quite a quiet place so not much destraction. I liked the idea about imagining Jesus in the 'third eye' spot, this may help alot. Thanks
Let your attention rest on the flow of your breath. Listen to it, follow it, but make no judgments on it (such as "It sounds a little raspy...maybe I'm getting a cold?"). The goal is to allow the "chattering" in your mind to gradually fade away. Find an "anchor" to settle your mind.
When I was a beginner I had the same problems. After searching for solutions, I discovered binaural beats. Using a recording with headphones on really helped me block out distractions. It helped me so much, I decided to start a blog about it (the link above). It is mainly is explanation type stuff at this point, but I hope to get into the more personal stories later.
