Hi, This may not be the right place for this post, but here goes. Has anyone heard of this before? or have this? There is not a huge amount of information on the net about this syndrome because it's discovery is relativly new. I would have said it's all B/S propaganda, exept, I have it. I have been smoking for 10 years and am 29. I have been effected with this for the last 4 years. About 10 trips to A&E a year for fluids and morphine pain relief. I have only just found out what was wrong with me yesterday. It's a huge relief but also quite frightening at the same time. Im just looking for anyone with advice or experiences with this. Evidently I must give up pot to fix myself, This wont be easy and Im not looking foward to trying. It must be done. Looking foward to your thoughts.
Is a hypersensitivity to cannabis developed from prolonged chronic use, I had used for 6 1/2 years before any signs showed up. It's VERY painful, with vomiting attacks lasting 24hrs or more, the only relief is a HOT shower and uninterupted sleep to kind of reset my brain. This is also where the high doses of morphine came in handy
holy shit..thats bizarre. I wonder how they linked it to cannabis in the first place though... I googled it and found some case examples. I didnt really find anything to convince me beyond dreasonable doubt that this is directly linked to cannabis. In all cases the patients were described as engaging in chronic cannabis use during one point in their life, not neccessarily at the time they were diagnosed. It seems plausible to me that the underlying cause is something besides cannabis, and considering the high percentage of the population that smoke pot, its entirely coincidental that all reported cases were once chronic smokers. I'm really trying to play the devil's advocate, on the other hand its entirely plausible that because they were all chronic smokers, cannabis is directly related. Who knows...i'm dumbfounded. It sounds like a pretty shitty syndrome to have no matter what the cause, sorry youre going through that. The hot shower thing to alleviate symptoms is really bizarre
I would never have thought it was linked to my pot use. I had no idea what was causing the episodes. Im still very skeptical, i love smoking and also found smoking pot at the first signs of the episodes helped make them go away, for a while. If that didn't work it was into a hot shower which worked most of the time, until the water ran out. Then I'd start vomiting again, every 20 minutes for hours, just yellow bile. Eventually going to hospital for dehydration treatment, anti-spasmodic's and generally begging them to give me something to knock me out. I don't really want to give up all together, I'd like to try cutting right back and hopefully not smoking enough to promote these episodes anymore.
It's a relatively recent addition to the list of human disorders. It's so extremely rare as to be practically non-existent. It apparently requires a person to be an extreme chronic user and even those are highly unlikely to develop the 'syndrome'. Lucky you, ay.
I know where your coming from Meliai, I have trouble believing its only from pot, because of the relative recentness of the syndrome and the huge history of widespread pot use. I wondered about fertilizers, plant foods, fungus, moulds, introduced "enhancing" agents added by unscrupulous dealers, all sorts, I just don't know. And the hot showering thing was the reason I found out about this, It's all that helps, a learned behavior, by everyone with it by the looks. Really unusual but I will run the hot water out at my house and at my parents house with the water as hot as I can stand, sometimes I wonder if my insides are cooking?!. During the worst attacks I haven't even been able to stand up. My g/f can't lift me so I've been carried to the car by the neighbour to go to hospital because I was dehydrated and in a delerious, vomiting and very messy state.
yea, it is shitty, but thanks for your thoughts people. Im goin to get some help from addiction services. If I stop smoking I cant sleep, and when i do I sweat so much I wake up and I feel shitty all day and vomit, so i keep smoking. However its like a trade off, feel good all the time and once a month or so, all of a sudden, it's time to pay back the debt with a 24-48hr "episode". Reading back over this, anyone would think I was on crack or somthing?!...Im not, really...
go to a health food store and load up on herbal teas. if you can't smoke, there are plenty of herbal teas out there that have the same medicinal properties as pot..just sadly without the nice heady feeling
I call bullshit on this whole thread and the OP.... Use at least a little bit of intelligence, people.... someone previously unknown comes to hip forums to 'help save you from the dangers of pot'... I have been around pot my whole life, first experience with it was when I was 5 when I ate muffins I didn't know were made with pot... I have been actively smoking since I was in my late teens... in the last 15 years, I havent went more then a day or two without it.... I have never ever even heard of this except from people who rant against the 'evil pot'.... Now,if this had come from someone who was actually known and had been around for years talking about their usage and issues, it could have been 'something' but as this was a 'new' person coming here and 'sharing' this info as if we were all old friends? 100% BULLSHIT!
Ha I knew someone would call B/S, theres always one. Chronic Tom, the retired asshole, how appropriate, thought you would have been here earlier. I am by no means here to 'help save people from the dangers of pot', no way. Im here GENUINLY looking for information on this syndrome. Im not totally sure what I think about it yet, I love pot and always have. Try to get your head out of your ass for a minute and imagine if you had the same symptoms and had been trying for years to figure it out?! Would you still be so ignorant as to dispell all ideas that possibly it could be from Pot? Well I'm not. If you have been around pot all your life and am still fine, then Im envious of you, I wish I could be. Just because it hasn't happened to you or anyone you know, has nothing to do with anything. I had also never heard of this untill last week, I would *almost say i was like you. Im making a return to the Forums after a long absence, My original username had long since expired so i started fresh. It is alot how I remeber it, with MOST people being helpful and friendly...Do you look like comicbook guy? I imagine you would.
We can develop allergies to strawberries and shellfish, but they are still tastey and nutritious. I could see this happening as a symptom of high tolerance. Marijuana has been known to relieve nausea and vommitting, perhaps you have smoked to the point that you need more herb to be satiated. Or your body does not have the ability anymore to relieve the nausea by itself b/c of herb use.
Okay, you're right, I could be wrong, you may not be a troll just looking for another method to spread your bullshit... Perhaps you genuinely are 'suffering' from this disorder and you came here looking for medical information as this is a well known source for medical information. I know that whenever I hear of a new medical condition, that could be affecting me and my life, the first thing I do is come here...
This makes no sense since cannabis is an anti-nausea agent. In other words it usually prevents people from throwing up, like those getting chemotherapy. The only reason I can think of that would make you vomit is if you have a stomach problem like ulcers or acid reflux. People need to remember that when you smoke you also inhale smoke into your stomach as well as your lungs. If you concentrate when you toke you may be able to focus the smoke into your lungs rather than your stomach. How are you with eating cannabis? You should try that and see if it solves your problem or not. Also I agree that it might be caused by adulterants or contaminants in your pot. I see you're from NZ. I hear Whangarei is now a hot place for cannabis. It sure wasn't when I visited there in 1984! You probably have many sources to choose from, I suggest trying another source who guarantees they grow organically. Good luck to you! Let us know how you fare.
I just did some more research on this and found out it was only identified in 2004, in Australia. My guess is some additive is causing this. To do EVERYONE a great service you should find out exactly what was added to the cannabis you smoke. If we can narrow it down to a particular additive or even a mold, that would be good. Many people are adding sulfur to pot to kill mold. I find when I get pot like that it messes me up. And I bet if I smoke a lot of it, it would do some permanent harm. So find out what they use to kill mold, fertilize, kill bugs, and any enhancements they've added like molasses or other flavorings. It could be any of those things. Or it could just be your body saying, ENOUGH ALREADY! People who smoke pot everyday should heed the Buddha! Everything in moderation... Have you tried eating yogurt with active cultures? The best kind has at least 3 different strains of bacteria. These will destroy other bad bacteria in your system that could cause vomiting.
The thing is that IF this does exist, which only a few sources support, then it is a statistical anomaly... Since it's 'recognition' in 2004 (6 years ago) there have been SEVERAL cases of it reported... This is out of the estimated 147 MILLION people that use weed around the world. To put that in perspective, ALD (adrenoleukodystrophy), which the movie Lorenzo's oil was about, is considered a very rare thing, affects 1 in 20,000 male babies... or 7350 per 147 million... There will always be people who are affected in radical ways by things that most people never even get a hint about... This does not in anyway translate into new diseases that people should be warned about or offered up as 'evidence' that pot is the cause. And all THAT, is based on IF these issues are indeed caused by pot use in the first place. There is so little that is 'known' (as opposed to theorized) about this, that for all anyone knows, there is something (pollution) in the air where you live that when combined with the chemicals in pot it causes this to happen... Or it could just simply be that you bought bad pot at some point and something in it caused a transformation in your lung tissues that made you susceptible to this... Just look at the indications they use to define this 'disorder'. The first one is that the patient must have used cannabis habitually over a long period of time... AUTOMATICALLY that means that anyone who suffers from the same symptoms, but doesn't and hasn't smoked pot, will be diagnosed with a different disorder. That in itself makes this whole issue nothing but one of fear and ignorance being spread. Whether the OP is the source of this dis-information, or is just regurgitating it in a well meaning attempt to find out more about it, doesn't change the fact that it is 100% BULLSHIT. Or to be polite about it for the overly sensitive... It is a statistical anomaly....
