I was - back in 1970 an attorney friend of mine called and said there was a warrent out for my arrest on drug charges. This was in Jackson Mississippi.

Seems a friend of an old girl friend of mine had told the NARCs that she knew someone who dealt. She called me one day and wanted to know if I had some weed - I went out to her car and sold her a lid for $20 - a fair price - I wasn't really a dealer - just had some weed.

When I found out, I split to New York with a coupla grams of hash - went to see the Allman Bros and Johnny Winter at the Filmore East - Went to Harlem and tried some horse for the first time. (I have hept. C to this day). Then to Toronto until I decided I didn't want to be away from my family and friends forever so I went back.

Got 6 months on the county farm - got out in 3. What a waste of time and resources - I was a 20 year old dude just trying to enjoy life and WAM - I'm in jail. Oh well - Just another incident that made me into me.

Ever see "Cool Hand Luke" ? That was me out on the roadside swinging a blade clearing the right of way. (Not in the movie - but doing the same thing) Cptn Max, Cptn Bill, Aptn Ford - What an experience. Hinds County Penal Farm in Raymond, Ms.

Lots & lots of stories though. It wasn't all bad - but it was a waste.

BTW -There were like 3 or 4 friends of mine locked up at the same time. I remember - my girlfriend won't write and I broke up with her. I was at the greeting station when a friend of mine walked past the station and split while I just sat there. I thought for sure I would get an extra 6 months for that. I was in the Captains car and there were some darvon's sitting there on the console - hey - what could I do - I took a couple. Schee - if I had been caught I probably would have been beaten to a pulp.

Let's have a little sharing stories.

Busted in Aug of '71 for selling an ounce of homegrown to an undercover narc. They did a good job with this guy, too. He even had Cal. plates on his truck and a whole back story.

Anyway, the charge was reduced to possession of less than an oz., but my buddy and I were sentenced to the max - 1 year in the countly slammer and a $500 fine. This was worse than prison, to my way of thinking, because you never get out of your cell. They eventually reduced the sentence to 2 months + time served + a year on probation. I also had to pay the jail for room and board $285. Talk about insult added to injury.

Now days, you'd get a couple of days in jail and a slap on the wrist, which seems a whole lot more reasonable.

I haven't really thought about this for years- I guess cause it's kinda embarassing.
What I would do, "thinking how slick I was", is I would stand by a pay phone and panhandle, asking people for a dime. But if someone looked rich, I would ask for spare change. It worked really well until an undercover cop said "panhandling is against the law, you are under arrest". Everyone in the holding tank thought this was really funny getting busted for asking for a dime. Luckily for me, the next day the judge believed that I was just asking for a dime to make the call and let me go. I'd call that just plain lucky.

My brother got busted with two ozs of my pot. Does that count? Oh yeah, I got popped for hitchhiking on the interstate in Washington or Oregon, not sure which. Got taken to the station and had to post bond. That probably doesn't count either. I was hitchhiking cross country back when acid bought serious time in the south and got stopped and searched in Dallas but they missed my acid. Scared me, but I guess that doesn't count either. I guess I don't get to wear a pokey patch on my shirt.

Busted is busted. I don't see why yours wouldn't count.
I got nailed a bunch of times for hitching on the freeway. I guess I was lucky, though - they only told me to get my ass down to the entrance ramp and drove off. Once or twice, they took me to the ramp. Seems like it was always either Texas or Colorado.

We got searched once, outside of El Paso. My buddy had a couple of hits of something floating loose in the oversized pockets of his Navy pea coat. When we got searched, the cop stuck his hand down in the pocket and said, "What's this?" He pulled out a ball of lint, looked dissapointed, and left, leaving us to put our shit back together. What is it they say, "God watches over fools and madmen?"

Actually, I got busted twice. The second time I had pulled up to a curb by a friends house and was smoking a doobie. I look up in my mirror and there is a cop pulling in right behind me.

Having been busted once before and doing time, I was bright red, sweating like a pig and shaking like a leaf - not to mention blood shot eyes. Of to the county jail again. Nasty place.

When I finally went before a judge he took pity on me and let me off on probation - which eventually was purged.

Not good, Not good at all.

Busted for 6 -10$ bags of heroin in 1974 in the South Bronx- 6 months on Rikers(out of the 9 they gave me)- could've been a lot worse
Busted for 2- 10$ bags of heroin in 1980 in East Harlem- time served(3 days)- that was it

Under the old Rockefeller Laws -drug possession/sales in NY was as bad as it gets- - see link below
    http://www.prdi.org/rocklawfact.html

Even the cops & Judges recognized how crazy it was and how the prison population was sky high over silly marijuana possessions/sales so (if they could) they wouldn,t go by those inhumane laws after 1975 in NY-

    Ain't it the truth.
Back when I got busted, there were plenty of people doing hard time for simple pot possession. Now days they jist confiscate yer dope and leave you to mope. (if that.)

Well, technically I've been busted. Luckily, none of the three of us were holding at the time.

San Francisco pigs staking out the pawn shops arrested us for attempting to sell a stolen camera. Only it wasn't stolen. So we got booked, handed blankets and put in a cell for the night. Luckily the camera checked out clean and we were released three hours later.

They didn't keep my booking info or mug shot all these years. Damn.

heh... nothing so drastic as that.
My wife has had three surgeries on the same knee in the last 6 weeks and that's kept me kind of busy. The first two were failed bone grafts; the last one developed an infection, so I've been spending all of my time just taking care of her. And, of course, it's been summer.
