making BHO today...need some advice on extraction tube material

I'm making BHO (Butane Hash Oil) today and need to go grab supplies. I know what to use for everything but the extraction tube. Everywhere I read says to use a glass tube if you can find one (which I doubt I'll be able to), and to avoid PVC and copper. I'm wondering if ABS pipe for plumbing would be ok, or black pipe (steel) for gas fitting. Or perhaps you have a better idea that I haven't heard of/thought of. One guy said he used a steel thermos...

Anyhow if you have any ideas what I could use that is reasonably priced let me know asap please!

 

I wouldn't risk it personally, but I play it as safe as possible when extracting. I like the gong tubes that are easily available for purchase on the web and since they're designed for such a purpose, they're fucking worth the money.

Stainless steel, like a thermos or turkey baster would be the best alternative imo, but I wouldn't really know as I've never extracted through that medium before, though we were going to use a stainless steel turkey baster before my friend bought his gong extraction tube.

 

Yeah I've read the turkey baster thing...I'm probably going to go that route. Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada so it shouldn't be hard to find one. Or maybe it will be as they are all sold out? Also going to go to a tobacco shop to get some high quality butane. Apparently this shop is the oldest tobacco shop in Canada, established 1891. Anyhow..I'll post pics of the results later on if I end up grabbing supplies in time.

i am an expert at this....ANY plastic pipe is fine....glass is bad to use because if you drop it its gone...i have this down to less than an hour....my tip is to make sure you tape the caps on.....also put a rib of tape around the tube a few inches from the bottom and it will sit nicely in a mason jar...collect the butane in that and transfer to a flatter rounder bowl for the boil off...remember ..butane boils at half a degree so NO open heat source...warm water only

 

dont waste your money on collibri butane....dollar store stuff works fine

already bought it...mercaptan free. Grabbed a stainless steel thermos to use as a chamber. Gonna go drill holes in the shop now.

 

stainless will be fine. Yeah black pipe would have been a bad call..forgot that they use oil in making it.

 

You definitely want to use at least quadruple refined butane, NOT any of the nasty dollar store 3x or lower butane, that shit is nasty unless you want impurities in your bho even after multiple purges.

You could die in other ways than using steel, it's your own dumb fault if you somehow make it spark.

Glass is the way to go if you have a glass-on-glass bho extractor and the proper extra tools, aka keck clips and either a stand or a THICK potholder as the tube will get ridiculously cold, though that helps you to grip it honestly.

Every time I make bho the whole process is done in about 30-40 minutes and I've never had a problem yet, I honestly wouldn't trust putting it in a plastic pipe myself.

Also pyrex cake pans are the best things to collect your bho with imo as they're very easy to completely scrape as you can attack it from most every angle

^please...car exhaust has a million times more carcinogens than what makes it into your lung from the butane...do you also use sterile pipe and papers?.....when you have to push throuigh 80 tins through many pounds and stay safe and stay smart then NO GLASS NO METAL...its a fuckin pipe bomb..why push your luck...

mission accomplished Just scraped the pyrex...did 2 cans through a little more than a half o of the lower branches of our giant plant. It looks/feels like I got about 2 grams of oil, but my friend has my scale so can't verify that until i find the other one. Gonna charge the batteries for my camera and then get some pics of the thermos I modded+the final product.

If you're careful about how you use it, that should probably get you high at least once, if you're lucky, maybe even twice.

 

it will go alot further than that man...keep in mind this is the THC from about 14-20gs of scraggly looking bud concentrated into around 1.5gs. I could put a drop on some tobacco and get blazed as hell. I've already smoked 3 seshes with it (fair sized drop/chunk on top of some ground bud)

ALright basically what I did was drill a hole through the bottom of the thermos and several holes through the lid. I cut 2 small wooden blocks on the tablesaw and drilled a similar sized hole through each of them. The blocks of wood were then glued to the thermos (one on the inside, one on the outside) with a transparent bic pen glued into the hole. In the outer end of the bic pen the lighter fitting from the butane cap is inserted and this is where the butane was filled through. The chamber is then packed with bud and the lid sealed with a coffee filter covering the holes, preventing shake from falling through. Pretty much it...I think I may still modify a turkey baster to work for me as I have read that you don't want you're 'vessel' to be much more than an inch and a half in diameter, while the thermos is about 2". I still have another ounce or so of shake, which will definitely be made into oil now that I know how simplistic it is.

 

Yeah. I was making a joke in reference to the potency of your hashish. I completely understand how strong it is though. If you're looking for a better way to smoke it then putting it on tobacco, I've had luck with the put-it-on-a-paper-clip and set a glass on it, and then suck the smoke out with a straw. I haven't tried hot knives though, and I've heard a lot of good things about that.
