A Federal judge has issued a permanent injunction against the US Military's Don't Ask Don't Tell policy for gay service personnel. This means that men and women serving in the military can now be openly gay. The suit was brought by Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights group. Can you imagine the reaction of Republicans and conservatives? I guess that's why conservatives were on the airwaves yesterday complaining about gay rights. The Obama administration has 60 days to appeal this ruling. Since Obama is supporting the repeal, it's doubtful whether there will be any appeal. http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/10/12/judge.dont.ask.order/index.html?hpt=T2
Yes, and now the Obama administration is going ahead with an appeal. They say because they are obliged to defend federal law in court. Yeah right. Obama says one thing, does another, as usual. This could be tied up in court for years. http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE69B63U20101012
Obliged? But don't they feel that DODT is wrong? Now how am I supposed to take politics seriously after this?
What the fuck? Why would the hell would the administration do that? Changes in federal law are still federal law +_+
he actaully goes by the book. we aren't used to that. he is a representative of an entire country, not just liberals. even if the law sucks, he is going by the book. i don't defend the book though. lol.
I mistook the subject of this link, this is about DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act), not DADT, Don't ask don't tell. But still it shows Obama Admin wanting to continue to deny gays equal rights.
wtf? Obama appealing. Does this court decision REALLY mean okay for gays in the military OR does it mean it is now once again to OPENLY discriminate (even more so than we have been doing - if that's even possible)? i got three simple words that are the ULTIMATE argument for the value of gays in the military:Alexander the Great!
spiceycat, that's something I was wondering. Supposedly DADT was going to make it easier on gays since they could serve, they just had to be quiet about being gay. Before that you could be discharged if anyone found out you were gay, whether you said anything or not. And you could be reported and kicked out without any recourse. So the question is what policy would replace DADT? That's the "prickly" issue no one is addressing.
I know some gay people that are not all that thrilled about the DADT policy anyway; for a number of reasons...but I don't know any gay people in the military. I wonder what their stance is. I do have to say I have been remarkably unimpressed with this administration; even tho' I had very high hopes. Wa bluska made me LOL.
The DoJ is probably going to appeal this, same day this was announced, the DoJ announced they were going to appeal the ruling that the defense of marriage act is unconstitutional. Obama is really just trying to make his base hate him.
