As most of you have probably heard, the final voting for proposition 19 will happen next month on November 2. If it's passed, marijuana will then be legal to possess and grow for anyone 21 or older. It would most likely take effect the following day. So far the polls are looking very positive! I think this is likely to actually happen! What do you guys think? I envy those of you who live in California lol but i happen to be going there next month to visit my sister so i will get to experience it, if it does in fact happen =]
Cool- is there a limit to the amount you can grow and posses? When it was tolerated in Switzerland there was no limit to the amount you cold plant, buy or posses http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/articles/3032.html http://www.cannabisculture.com/v2/articles/1827.html
yea you can possess up to an ounce and you can grow in a private residence in a space of up to 25 square feet. that part i don't really understand because just one pot plant yields more than an ounce of pot lol.
Yes thats strange. Nowdays in some of the Swiss states, little amounts are still tolerated like growing for own use but the times of unlimited amounts are over.
I believe the feds may be trying to influence that outcome. So much for the big 0 administration having a pro legalization stance -eh? I'll be somewhat surprised if it passes and more than a little interested in seeing how the DEA reacts to having the citizens of Cali collectively thumb their noses at it. I expect that we'd all get an unpleasant lesson in what "states rights" does not mean.
I've been waiting for this forever. If it happens, I will definitely move to California when I'm older. Maybe a few friends of mine will come along. It will be great.
I should totally vote on this one huh. Actually I am not sure because the quality of the pot will go down if it turns legal. Anybody else think its better off illegal?
As much as I would like it to, I seriously doubt it will pass. I will actually bet someone money that it won't pass. Also, the people who don't want it to pass are much more motivated than the people who do.
I think the feds are bluffing. There aren't enough DEA agents to swarm the state of California and arrest small time users and dealers. Thats why they leave it up to state and city police to enforce those laws. If it becomes legal then none of the state or city cops will be doing so, which leaves DEA agents outnumbered.
much like growing yummy homegrown veggies, with legalization you could grow your own, and play with potency in a fear free environment. tomacco anyone? it would be more work/ effort for better weed (or tomatoes, or tobacco, or hops) but for some people it would be worth it.
Why would the quality go down? When it was legalized for medical use, access to high quality cannabis has gone up not down. Same should happen if its fully legalized.
It absolutely won't go down if it gets legalized. If anything, it'll go up even higher. People of all different backgrounds are going to be free to experiment with growing however they please without fear of having their front door kicked in by a team of DEA agents. Although, that's still looking like it might be a valid concern. If the Feds do take action against the state, we need to take a serious look at where the power lies in this country, because if they punish people after prop 19 takes effect, it definitely doesn't lie i the hands of the people...
I agree. They're bluffing. Actually, they are pretty much required by the U. S. Constitution to say they will continue to enforce the federal laws -- they are the Executive Branch of government, after all. But, the feds have already declared they will not go against state law regarding medical marijuana, so I think pretty much the same thing will happen if Proposition 19 passes. The latest poll shows strong support for legal pot: 47% yes, 38% no.
