Hello everyone. It's been a while since I needed any reassurance but I'll get to the point... I have been receiving 60 .5mg ativan for the last six months and the thought of being screened by my third rate doctor had never crossed my mind until this past Saturday when one of her employees mentioned she was planning to screen me. Needless to say I lucked out because the doctor subbing for my usual one can't write scrips for benzos so I rescheduled my appointment for this coming Friday... Up until that Saturday I had been smoking every day with the occasional day missed due to lack of funds. I plan on diluting heavily and taking B12 and creatine supplements beforehand in hopes the THC won't show up, however, throughout Tuesday and Wednesday before the test I've taken a total of 8mg of Xanax since I can't smoke for my anxiety and I've been out of ativan for weeks. As for my question: Will dilution prevent the Xanax from testing positive after two days? Or do drug screens test for each drug in particular or will it just come back as a benzo that could be explained by the ativan? I've passed for pot using dilution after just three days so I think I stand a good chance being that I'm 5'10 and weigh 140-145lbs with a fairly high metabolism... I'd just hate to lose a prescription I need because Tennessee is too uptight to implement MMJ which would help sooo much more...
Looks like this reply might be coming in too late. If you already had your urine screen, I hope it worked out in your favor! I was in a very similar situation (pharmacologically) about a month ago. I have an old (but still valid) Rx for Ativan, but had recently been taking 0.5mg/day alprazolam instead, just like you. So after a lot of research and stressing, I discovered the following: -Benzos with very short half lives (Ativan and Xanax, as opposed to Valium, Klonopin) normally fall beneath the detection cut-off level for standard urine screens within 10 days of the last dose. Many sites report a window of 30-45 days, but that's only if you've been taking diazepam/etc. I know this isn't directly relevant to your issue, but I figured i'd add it anyway. -Basic urine screens only report the class of the substance (Cannabinoid, Benzodiazepine, Opiate, Amphetamine), and not the particular drug. SO, if you have xanax metabolites in your urine, you will likely come up positive for BZOs. However, if you inform the test administrator that you have taken ATIVAN recently, and produce proof of your Rx, then when they see the positive generic "BZO" result, no red flags will be raised since they'll be EXPECTING it. Accordingly, they should assume it's Ativan -- since you've given them prior notice -- and not subject the urine to a second, more intensive 'GC/MS' analysis. That type of procedure WOULD differentiate Ativan vs. Xanax, however it's time-intensive and can be expensive. It's typically only used in situations where 100.0% certainty is demanded, ie. when an unexpected positive test result would carry serious consequences if it is indeed accurate. Obviously, re-confirmation via GC/MS is required after testing positive on a random drug screen at work since a false positive would result in the wrongful termination from your job (and possibly a lawsuit for the company!), or if you failed a test while on probation and the analysis would need to meet the highest standards to hold up in court. -If you're still concerned, loading up on water and taking B12 couldn't hurt. Any legitimate means of dilution should work in your favor for benzos, THC, or anything else. Hope that helps! :2thumbsup:
