I live in Omaha where we have the worst mayor EVER! They have a recall effort going and i definitely wanted to run for mayor, because i think i'd be pretty good at it but..... You have to be at least 18 and i'm only 16. Does anyone think that perhaps I could take it up with the proper authority and try to run???
There's no way they are going to bend the rules for you to run this time. But now is a great time to start your campaign for next time around. You'll have a multi-year head start on anyone else running next time, and you'll have plenty of time to get your name and ideas known in the community. Go for it!
bad news... ARTICLE III. THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH Section 3.01. The Mayor. No person shall be disqualified from candidacy for the office of Mayor because of the fact that such person holds any other public office, either elective or appointive and no holder of any such other office shall be required to resign such other office in order to become and remain a candidate for the office of Mayor.
not gonna happen honey. a petition doesn't equate to an amendment of municiple code, as far as i know at least. create a brand for yourself early. get to know all of your potential constituents over the next 8 years.
I wish you the best of luck The best way to get things changed is to use the system for all it's worth. Go for it!
