    Heeeyy...
So I got my monroe piercing a little over a month ago and it seemed to be healing fine (despite being occasionally bumped to hard by my kids).
Today I noticed on the inside of my lip, right under the flat part of the ring, there is a weird bump. Idk if this is normal? It doesn't really hurt or squish like it's infected but idk. It's a little swollen and it just doesn't feel right. Anyone with advice please share. I'm going back to the original piercer tonight to see what he says, but please, just put me at ease.

it should be ok!!! just keep it clean with non-alcoholic mouth wash, or salty water!! but I'm not a proffesional!! D: .. its probably just your body getting used to it... i dont know  .. what did your piercer say??

He just said "rinse, rinse, rinse". But he's kind of a jackass...he's the one who f'd it up the first time. It fell out a few times and I got hit in the mouth a few times since then (about 5 wks ago) So it could have been from any number of things. Idk, I guess I'll just keep rinsing and see what happens...hopefully my face doesn't fall off. lol

Without seeing it and not even having passed my boards yet ( ;) ), it's hard for me to diagnose over the internet. That said, it sounds like a nodule. Under many layers, it has a closed off pocket of pus, keratin, or something. You can't squeeze it out. The worst thing you can do is continue to poke at it. Constant rinsing won't help or hinder the process, though you should use diluted Listerine (1:10 Listerine:water solution) after you eat or brush your teeth.

One of two things will happen with your nodule: It will get bigger and be pushed to the surface, leading it to abscess and burst, or it will be reabsorbed into your body. If it abscesses, you have to go to the doctor, but it's less likely with a nodule. Just keep your mouth clean.

^Hey thanks! I've been rinsing with sea salt/water because I heard Listerine has alcohol in it which can be bad for the healing process...is this true?

And yes, the way you described it, it sounds like a nodule.

I had a small bump next to my nose piercing a few weeks after I had it done, but it seemed to just disappear after a little while. Just keep it clean!

Very strong alcohol can cause irritation of the mucus membranes and healing area, which is bad, which is why we dilute it. I'd rinse with sea salt and water after, as well. Alcohol also will help dry up any keratin or other junk as it surfaces. ALWAYS dilute it. I'd rather it heal a little slower from irritation than heal improperly again. Never drink a straight shot or put pure alcohol on the area.

Listerine has alcohol, but diluted, it's the best thing for cleaning your mouth and killing bacteria.

I Think its time to find a new piercer. Mine is a dream, He lets me some in and annoy him with all my questions like "so i was sleeping on my ear last night and now it kinda hurts a lot can you look at it" and Ill poke it because im a ding dong. I know what he will say "stop poking it, its red and hella pissed of at you right now, dude i said stop poking it, DONT TOUCH IT, so clean it and try not to sleep on it and you will be ok" then I will say "ive had it for years when is it going to play nice always" and he will say "ive had this one twice as long and when i sleep on it wrong it does the same thing" then he offers to take it out I say no way and we chat about random stuff for a hour and I go home.

He will look at piercings done other places too and tell you whats going on. Even though he didnt get payed to do the piercing he does not want to see someone get all kinds of jacked up.

As for your bump it could be so many things with out seeing it or draging you in to pester my guy i couldnt tell you much at all. But im gonna say clean it, dont touch it unless you cleaning it (witch should be in the shower after you wash the rest of you) and it should go down or get bigger.

Good luck with the healing and kids, I have had mine take 3 to 4 times longer because of the bumps and thumps from my girls.
