What is the function of memory? Is it only about remembering the past? Or can we peer into the future by using the same functions used by memory? If time is an illusion, then everything is here presently. We need only remember to reacquaint ourselves with the past and the future. Our memory of the past comes from the same place as our dreams of the future. Our imaginations play a big part in our memory as well as our dreams, more than most care to admit. Our memory is very flexible, so the future should be easily imagined. We reinvent the past at our convenience so why not envision our preferred future and thereby create it. So we have the power to mold our future to our liking, if we choose to use it. Imagine that!
Some say life is but a memory... since we cannot possible observe the present, due to inevitable synaptic delay. I don't think divining the future should be all that difficult for those connected with the web of the wyrd as we all truly are. We do it all the time in the short term...it's the long term that is difficult ZW
I read once about an experiment in which brain activity was measured and people were shown emotionally charged images such as a baby crying or a viper striking, and that their brain activity showed the proper response milliseconds before each image was shown.
So we see only the past. Some would say that synaptic delay is the reason for the perception of linear time. If we are aware of synaptic delay and the subsequent illusion that creates then we may transcend that impediment through conception I agree we do it. The difference between long and short term is consistency.
I've also heard this called Intent, a true force in the universe at our disposal, or Calling of the will, the actualization of our connection with the universe at large. ZW
After the experiment - it was published in an issue of Maxim and I read it. After I read it - I told yins about it.
If one can tap into the Akashic Records, then one is supposedly able to access any info - forward, or backward. I guess the trick is how to go there. I personally find deja vu a feeling of "remembering the future." However, I do not feel that tapping into the Akashic Records, is the only way to know.
Intent I liken as the psychic equivalent to gravity. Around our intent coalesces the circumstances of our lives, drawing orbiting bodies to ourselves.
Great points! According to C. Castenada, Intent creates reality. I really like the way you put it, thedope! Bringing "gravity" into the scenario is very important as it works in both the macro and micro universes, and in an indirect way explains the how Astrology works (planetary electromagnetic and gravitational forces acting upon each other and all objects on the planets too). When you think how easy it is for scientists (or Astrologers) to compute the future course of planets, it should likewise be as simple for us to see into our own futures, no? I guess the difference is we're supposed to have free choice, whereas planets don't. Some say we choose our parents and our lives in advance so we can learn from the experiences they offer us. Planets seem to have courses determined by the motion of other objects and the laws of physics. But these same things influence us, no? Perhaps we have more objects (people) around so the "odds" of us "changing course" are much greater due to the proximity of so many others influencing our choices. But getting back to the temporal issue, it would seem that planets fates are predetermined if you can account for all the influences affecting it during its lifespan. Can the same be said about us? When we make a decision, are we not weighing an internal calculus to find the path of least resistance between objects/people, just as a planet would do based upon gravitational forces? So can't our decisions be predicted objectively by weighing the same factors as we do internally, often subconsciously? When we exercise our Intent are we not just intuiting this path that lies before us and taking the inevitable step we were meant to take? By using our Intent, we consciously decide what to do, and therefore take full responsibility for our actions and their outcomes. We cannot claim to be a victim of circumstances beyond our control, because in fact we intended to create those circumstances so we could make the decision we were meant to make. Did I lose everyone yet?
Astrologers, have had centuries to observe the patterns that the planets, stars, etc. follow; and since they are so far away all of these objects are already in the past when we view them. (This thread of mine actually mentions that a bit) Yes. I think mentalists are akin to astrologers or meteorologists of people - but they have a much more chaotic nature to study. =) I think we can only know the future if it is already predetermined - and therefore, can not really claim responsibility for anything. But if we do have conscious control (that is, that it is not an illusion) - the future must not be predetermined. Any thoughts?
thedope: You said it. Our future lies in our consciousness, however one looks at it. So to create in the sense being spoken of in this thread, do we wait and see if we can, or actively make sure we are free to? I am sure that won't matter, so long as we reach a consensus where we can permit ourselves both options.
How about everything that occurs in the universe is random; How about we all stop trying to categorize things; How about we stop trying to break things down; How about we all stop trying to "prove" things; Because if it's imaginable, it's real.
the purpose of memory is to record experience (tho' you can edit it at your leisure) .. it prevents us staring at the sun and walking around with our underpants on our head :sunny: we imagine a future hopeful it will make us go "wow" as it did before we could remember it
