actually the armored hummer is heavy in the sand, its not very efficient on the fly/ get away : uses more gas and need fuel more often , and an armored truck isnt anymore a match for an IED than an less armored one. sometimes: the lighter it is, the force the explosion will push it up, rather than kill its occupants. speaking from experience..

And militairies don't protect you... They protect the elites from other elites.

Point of contention... we aren't actually declaring wars... we're fashioning the illusion of crisis in one form or another then using our military to presumably rescue the world from that crisis. It is a shame that my blind patriotism prevents me from seeing the global crimes being committed on behalf of corporate interests but in the name of freedom. Fortunately I have you to set me straight, Marc... ah I mean Mark.

At this point in my life I find being unfettered by the jealous trappings of having to protect wealth to be liberating itself. Whether a group that I have little to no concern for deems me poor or not does not register with me. Frankly I couldn't care less... my invisibility to them is more protection than a military division could offer me.

In order to substitute my patriotism for a suppository I'll first need to locate that patriotism... tough to find. I like what my country could be but not what it has become. I tolerate the contempt directed at me because what it all boils down to is the fact that if citizens as a whole were actually engaged in the political process instead of immersed in the money grubbing greedy game of "he who dies with the most toys and body fat wins" then the government would have been more answerable to the actual needs of the people instead of being free to forge unholy alliances with corporations and foreign countries with anything but our best interests at heart.

I cannot in any conscience move to cultivate animosity toward fellow citizens who I deem to be steeped in the ignorance of mass media propaganda because in order to even begin trying to set things right here it is first critical that we all act in concert against those who are promoting oppression as national security and economic stability/growth... particularly when the most likely outcome of these policies would result in neither. This is difficult at times for me as I see too often many of my neighbors as deserving of what's to come because of their insistence on clinging to the imperialist dogma of an establishment that is most threatened by any ability and willingness of the masses to think for themselves.

Just to clarify one little bitty point; most of us Americans are called Americans because we were born here, which, maybe you're not aware, was not our choice. I call myself an American today because that's where I live and where my citizenship is. My agreement, or disagreement, with my government has nothing to do with it.

The weapons on these ships are designed to fire on the beach to clear it and protect the troops that land there. Their range is a short distance. The purpose of the ships themselves is to deliver troops, equipment and vehicles to a beach area.

The striking feature of the LSD and new LPD is the ballast tanks that allow it to sink into the water enough for boats to travel in and out of the hollow center of the ship via a back "gate" that opens when needed. Vehicles can also be moved to the helicopter deck by crane and carried to the beach.

The LST has a flat bottom and a "gate" on the front that allows vehicles to drive out of it's hollow center directly onto the beach.
