https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_G3lVg3GH4"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P_G3lVg3GH4 Boycott Facebook,Twitter and Youtube. They are mostly full of trivial nonsense, that nobody should read or watch. Just think what would happen,if that sentence presented in the video above,"Be silent,or say something better than silence",would be on the front page of Twitter or Facebook? Would the cyber world fall silent? Would Facebook go bankrupt? Or it would it be transformed into something worth reading, since people would only say things that are better than silence? Think about that.
As of last month, I haven't watched tv for ten years. But I do look at stuff on youtube, which is likely not much more healthy. There is a whole lotta trash on there. There are a few useful things on it -- it's been very helpful for supplementing what my professors don't explain very well in class; it also has some great tutorials (poi spinning, yoga, etc.); inspiring activism clips -- but the banal & sensationalistic can suddenly & quite sneakily draw one in if one is not careful. It can keep me indoors & near electronic things, watching other people live, rather than me outdoors, living life.
I have a feeling I won't remember that video in ten days. Seriously,...some of the content on those "social medias" is pointless drivel...I tend not to watch/read that. But conversely you could watch/read so much good content you would not have enough time in your day to absorb it all. You basically get what you look for. I've just read some of your previous posts and most of them are trash, ok unfair...perhaps requiring more thought or you should have been silent.. Why are you being a hypocrite?
this is stupid. i'd consider talking about your new toy better than silence. especially if its a review of an ipad :afro: and facebook and myspace are social networks. are you expecting some kind of philosophical or political opinion every status update? or are you wanting people to search productive things? well the internet is not just for productive activities now, it's an activity itself, and it has been for a while. and like odon said, you get what you look for. if you personally are looking at people just talking about how their day went, then the situation is self-explanatory and theres nothing wrong with that. how are social networks trivial nonsense??
I have a confession. I do read and write things for/to laughs/pass the time of day etc etc etc. I didn't mean to come across as a snob. I was only making 1 point rather than several.
I've never used Twitter I haven't touched my Facebook page since last year. Youtube is great because it lends itself as an alternative media and is great for private citizens to film footage the mainstream media doesn't want you to see or broadcast. Viacom tried to shut down Youtube when it was a start-up company. Perhaps its a good thing Google bought them out so they could afford the lawyers to take on Viacom's scumbag agenda.
facebook is free I can get ahold of many of my friends who do not own cell phones! if anything its a wonderful blessing for our society, it may be an evil capitalistic machine that is using us for market research, but thats another disscussion altogether...lol I like reading that my friend just ate toast,or that another friend is bored at work. I think "I ate toast the other day" or " I get bored at work". it may be simple and dumb, but facebook makes me really realise we are all just as lame as everyone else! so just love it!
All social networks reflect society and people as a whole. The intelligent ones use it to connect and improve communication. While ignorant people will always use it to stir drama, talk shit and cause discourse. Were people and thats the way we are :2thumbsup:
Yes yes yes!! I'm on the boycott! Now go out and leave your house. Hug people in the park, tell you "real life" friends that you love them, pick some flowers, etc. IF your just looking for a boyfriend, girlfriend or just some sex. Might I suggest you try one of the following: 1) you can talk to all the girls on the street and tell her your looking for your hart's desire avenue. 2)Buy a puppy and teach him to catch a freesbie. Being a puppy he'll fail but you'll make lots of friends that need to stop and watch. 3) Build a lemonaide stand and pay everyone a nickle to have a glass. 4) Wear pyjamas into a bar and tell eveyone you were on your way to a slumber party. 5) Hang a sign around your neck that say's "I really need a hug" and go stand on a street corner. It's a beautiful beautiful world outside. Even the best 3D computer screen can't catch the beauty of a simple flower or what it's like to make love to a real humanbeing instead of MSN webcam show. So boycott Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, etc by going outside today to do something fun or crazy.
In my day we used to have these "telephone party lines" and park benchs. The party lines were almost always accidental errors in the phone system. You would click the receiver several times or jimmy the dial a certain way and you found yourself talking to all kinds of people in your area. As for the park benches, we would write little messages for others and then return in a few days to see if someone responded. I wouldn't call these things social networking but I'm certain there are those that might. I think Hipforums is a little like the above 2 examples. Whereas Facebook is sugar coated in media hype. I'm not certain it's social and it's a pretty lousy tool for networking. But if your definition of networking is either 1) talking to someone you haven't seen in 30 years, 2) or trying to get cyber sex, 3) or using it as a substitute to just telephoning your grandmother to say hi 4) or reading about what someone's visit to the Jack in the box. Then I'm sure it's a great social networking tool.
Social networks can be very useful but cannot be substituted for living life. I see that this generation seems inclined to "live" a facebook life. :frown:
I'm on Facebook, for no particular reason, and I'm starting to explore Google +. I have an alternative energy twitter account. I blog for a solar non profit. I block all the silly games on FB. I use social media, like FB, Twitter, Hipforums and.....wait for it.... . . . . . . . . . . You Tube. oh, the irony!
