:& Okay...so i think i might be pregnant...i have all the classic signs of pregnancy such as the missed period...breast soreness...increased appitite...nausea for the entire day...hate ciggarettes and that was my favorite thing in the world...mild cramping in my adbomen.....the problem is that i took two pregnancy tests one week apart and they both read negative...what is going on??? Im real confused and i need to know what if this has happened to anyone if they were pregnant and if it did ...what the fuck is wrong with those tests...i have the gut feeling that i am but the test say NO WAY!

I know of many women who have taken HPTs and gotten false negatives.

Have your doctor draw your blood to check for a HCG level (the hormone that is present only during pregnancy) This is foolproof and can be performed very early into a pregnancy, before a urine test can give you a true reading.

Good luck and let us know how you are!

    Big hugs to you...

The only time a home pregnancy is correct is when its a positive reading.

so every negative is wrong? ah i see. i guess every negative i've ever had was wrong then and i've really been pregnant all this time :p

i see the pregnancy bandwagon is back ;)

how long has it been since you last had sex? are you on bc? etc? of course you can always just go to the doctor to ease your mind - it's better to know SOMETHING than not. :)

but if it's only been, say, 10 days since you last had sex, it's a bit on the early side for a pregnancy test (although there are some that claim that kind of accuracy. i know if you're on birth control, you're supposed to wait 19 days from the last time you had sex for a moderately sensitive test to come out with the right result (i'm assuming this is the usual 14 days plus 5 days in case the sperm are living a long time) and generally at least 14 days for those not on bc).

MOST "failures" of HPTs are due to taking it too early in the pregnancy. These tests look for hormones which the placenta produce, and if it is too early for placental production, you may get a "false negative." The tests (particuarly EPT and First Response) are the SAME tests Dr. offfices use. The SAME test.

You can get false negatives. I have a freind who is a cancer survivor, and has way messed up liver and hormones, and every time she takes a pregnancy test, it comes out positive. Also some womyn with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (they often throw out HCG when they are not pregnant) and other reproductive hormone illnesses will have postive tests when they are not pregnant.

If you are at least a week past your date of expected menses, and are not menstruating, and have had TWO morning tests negative, please see a doctor. They can do a pelvic and tell in a second. Also ultrasound and blood work can be done.

There are other situations which can cause the symptoms you describe, but most of the time it IS early pregnancy. Wait a few days and take a good expensive test in the morning. Then see a doctor.

    Good luck.
