reminds me of aristotle from class today. he postulated that there are universal laws, but these universals must be applied relative to each person and situation. its universal that eating a healthy diet is good for everyone, but what we call healthy eating means something different for each person. whether someone is eating healthy or not is not about subjective opinion, but physiological facts. often we might as well act as if relativism is true because how much suffering a decision produces ultimately is impossible to measure, but just because suffering is hard to measure does not mean that there are not actual levels of suffering that specific actions actually produce. i think viewing morality as purely subjective is being very insensitive to actual suffering that is occurring in people regardless of how their subjective view aligns with yours.

Morality is subjective from an objective viewpoint. It's based on cultural upbringing and societal pressures. Would your morality you have today be the same if you had grown up somewhere else? Or even by yourself away from society?

haha yea i though of changing it to contentment the moment i posted it. i'm certainly not talking about temporary gratification and pleasure, and i feel the contentment doesn't quite suffice. i mean a desire to have the most sustainable lasting form of happiness, an extreme bliss found on the inside. contentment sounds a bit subpar and underwhelming (i'd be fine if things stay like this forever but it could be better). i'm talking about a blissful feeling of completeness everyone wants but doesn't quite know how to reach (except at the deepest level).

well put. you morality would be the same on a deeper level, but different on a conventional more superficial level.

is it really fleeting? perhaps some things are fleeting, but what about what is eternal? love and truth are eternal, in their purest form. nothing holds the gravity that truth does.
