I think they are a bit on the ridiculous side of things... I've watched some videos of their campaigns, checked out the website, and from my personal opinion it's basically just over exaggerated tactics to scare children. I don't think it's right to put this kind of fear into children, it's very irrational, teaches them to alienate and pick on kids who like a blaze every once in a while and to narc on people that could be a completely good person. I also theorize that if organizations like this are practically lying to kids about drugs, it'll make them trust the government and older generations less therefore causing them to do the drugs to find out what actually happens as opposed to what these lying douchebags say... Even in Canada over the last couple of years, the anti-drug campaigns are getting increasingly stupider with slogans like "Canadian marijuana is as addictive as cocaine" and so forth. I think there should be a more realistic drug-awareness program that goes "Look, okay you're not going to die or become a crackhead from smoking pot, but it's bad for your lungs and memory, so make sure you know everything you're putting into your body before smoking..." I think that would be much more effective than "OMG YOU'RE THE WORST KIND OF PERSON IN THE WORLD FOR FEELING GOOD AND CHILLING WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND LISTENING TO GOOD MUSIC, YOU'RE ALSO GOING TO DIE FROM THE 400 CHEMICALS IN MARIJUANA!!!"
Those drugs are good because corporate america makes a profit, same with alcohol and cigarettes, but a plant you grow yourself is evil. Oh no! I just realized our legislators may be hippocrites and in the pockets of the drug companies!
Those commercials are aimed for the mentality, the intellectual rigidity that our "educational" system strives to cultivate.
Indeed... Have you noted the ever increasing numbers of those "miracle drugs" that are subject to recall?
I hate those fuckin commercials. Most people take it all at face-value and believe exactly what they're told, without thinking for themselves and finding out the facts. Then those people pass the false-info along and it starts to mutate and become even further from the truth. Ignorance breeds ignorance.
yeah they should at least change the name of the campaign, there's MUCH more influence against drugs (which makes people curious) than there is peer pressure. for a campaign called "Above The Influence", i would think they wouldn't push one influence and one thought process on so many people, its kinda funny.
