Date someone who is not in school and has a job. That way they go through the same 'having to sleep early' thing as you.

I know she is probably not that much younger then you but i hate when much older men date the really young girls then complain that they can't keep up with their life styles. You choose it then you live with it. No one made you go after them.

With gentle explanation she should understand that you need decent sleep in order to be able to function and work that hard. If not, she has some serious maturing to do. I understamd her wanting to spend time with you, but there are days when you're not working...

A fair compromise should be enough. You going out and enjoying yourself with her on a night when you don't have to work the next day, or even a quiet night in. It doesn't always have to be drinking with her friends. She needs to discover this. She is of course free to drink with her friends without you, so she should do that if that's what she wants. She's lucky to have that freedom at the moment. One day soon she'll be in your position too, and then she'll get it.

I don't think you're lame. I think you're making a decent living, and getting the fun-work balance in a relationship with a job with long hours is tough, especially when one isn't working. I'm currently in your girlfriends position, but would I ever expect my boyfriend to be out drinking with me on work nights? Hell no. I make him dinner and help him unwind after such a tough day. Soon I'll be working too, and we'll find a new balance. Weekends for that kind of fun, evenings for supporting eachother.

It's tricky making everything into a schedule, but soon it becomes automatic and will feel more fun and spontaneous again.

It isn't fair. She needs to realise she's being unreasonable. Sharing means supporting eachothers basic needs too. Sounds like she's trying, but really needs to get a clue what it's like to be working so hard all day.

huh. rereading the posts, I would have ditched the party early, taken her back to MY place and gotten to work on time.
    Notice I didn't say well-rested!
C- glad you made it to Denver! and found a job. Where did you get hired?

when i was younger... I can't remember how many times I was out til 2am and back at work at 6am... Somtimes we'd close the bar on last call and go home and fuck til 4am getting only 1 hour of sleep at best. Enjoy it while you can... drink coffee and redbulls during the day. I remember working 12's, 4am to 4pm... I remember a few times there was no sleep at all. Now at 36, I need at least 2 hours of sleep a night..I perfer 5 or 6. You'll rest when your dead! Enjoy this time...You'll one day wish you could do it again...but you wont be able to. don't be lame, theres plenty of time for that in years to come.

She needs to know people work. Tell her to get a job, or else her schooling is her job and she needs to take it as it. Tell her you need to pay rent and all that, unless she wants to do that.. then you can sleepover. Heck I am in school and I am work, I deff understand what you mean . Im guessing she didnt get that experience to know what takes meats end. Talk to her about it if she doesnt understand break up, or stay friends.. but I mean FUCKING TALK TO HER about it and mean it. Make her understand, Tell her you care for you and you like her a lot but you cannot get fired etc.

She sounds like one of those annoying girls who don't want to miss out on youth so she has to party 24/7. Fuck that.

I think we should refrain from name calling. Defining behaviour-- selfish, immature-- is different than calling her nasty names.
I think we are all mature enought to not do that anymore.

She'll just have to learn to understand that you need to rest for work.

Mama - i got hired on Comcast (laughs)... it pays the bills, but I am not proud lol... I will need a new job in March though, when our project ends. I am not planning on working here forever.

you have been here on the forums forever! always love hearing your advice, and thanks again : ) CO has been awesome, looking forward to catching The Motet do Earth Wind and Fire this Saturday for their annual Halloween deal!

And the relationship has since fell apart... it last about 3.5 months. I just didn't want to drag a relationship on that I knew was not going to last. It isn't fair to her (or me)...Poor girl was really upset about the breakup, but I think she will realize we weren't meant to be soon. I felt like we shouldn't have to change our entire lifestyles just to be with eachother. And she was awfully clingy.

Oh well, thanks again for everyone who posted some advice.

I'm in the same boat kind of except reversed. My boyfriend has to wake up for 6 in the morning and he always wants me to go to sleep with him. But I have been having sleep maintenance insomnia ever since my depression kicked in again. Where I only get maybe 5 to 7 hours sleep if I am lucky. So that means if I go to bed with him around 11, I am up for good at 6 Am. I would want to go lay with him until he falls asleep then hang out with my room mates until 2 or 3. But he doesn't like this. He doesn't understand how it stresses me out to be up with nothing to do so early.
